Job description

Putting people first, every day

BDO is a firm built on a foundation of positive relationships with our people and clients. Our professionals provide exceptional service and advice that clients can trust. We offer an award‑winning environment that prioritises your personal and professional growth.

Your Opportunity

The Developer Advocate will serve as a critical bridge between BDO Canada’s AI Studio and Service Line Labs, ensuring seamless collaboration, technical enablement, and advocacy for AI adoption across the firm. This new role champions developer experience, promotes responsible AI practices, and accelerates the creation of AI agents that enhance workflows and client value. The position is hybrid, combining remote flexibility with in‑office collaboration and may require periodic travel.

Advocacy & Enablement

  • Act as the primary liaison between AI Studio and Service Line Labs to ensure alignment on standards, governance, and technical best practices.
  • Promote internal awareness of AI tools, frameworks, and development environments (e.g., Copilot Studio) through workshops, demos, and office hours.
  • Build and nurture a community of AI practitioners and citizen developers across service lines.

Technical Collaboration

  • Partner with IT to integrate AI development tools securely and efficiently into BDO Canada’s infrastructure, ensuring compliance with identity, access, and runtime governance.
  • Support Labs in prototyping and transitioning AI solutions from sandbox to production, following BDO Canada’s governance and quality assurance protocols.
  • Contribute to reusable components and patterns for AI agent development, ensuring scalability and interoperability across service lines.

Training & Education

  • Design and deliver training programs for practitioners on AI literacy, prompt engineering, and agent‑building fundamentals.
  • Facilitate hackathons and hands‑on sessions to accelerate learning and adoption of AI tools.
  • Collaborate with Learning & Development to embed AI capability pathways into firm‑wide learning programs.

AI Agent Development Support

  • Guide service lines in identifying high‑value workflows for AI enablement and assist in configuring or building agents within a governed environment.
  • Provide technical mentorship to practitioners working on Tier 1 and Tier 2 agents, ensuring adherence to BDO’s Responsible AI framework.
  • Monitor and report on adoption metrics, agent performance, and ROI to inform continuous improvement.

Success Indicators

  • Demonstrate BDO Canada’s core values: Integrity, Respect, Collaboration.
  • Understand clients’ industry, challenges, and opportunities; clients describe you as positive, professional, and delivering high‑quality work.
  • Identify and recommend effective service delivery to clients.
  • Share in an inclusive and engaging work environment that develops, retains & attracts talent.
  • Actively participate in adoption of digital tools and strategies to drive an innovative workplace.
  • Grow your expertise through learning and professional development.

Your Education & Experience

  • Minimum of 5‑6 years of experience in software development, AI/ML concepts and development, and API integration.
  • Minimum of 3‑4 years of experience in developer advocacy, technical evangelism, or community building.
  • Familiarity with enterprise AI platforms (e.g., Microsoft Copilot Studio) and governance principles.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts for non‑technical audiences.
  • Passion for enabling innovation responsibly within a professional services context.

The expected range of compensation for this role is $93,000 – $141,000 annually.

Why BDO?

Our people‑first approach has earned us a spot among Canada’s Top 100 Employers for 2026.

Benefits & Flexibility

  • Engage in the success and growth of BDO in Canada while building professional expertise across services, industries, and markets.
  • Access extensive learning and development opportunities.
  • Support for personal goals outside work and community impact.
  • Competitive cash compensation, flexible benefits from day one, and a market‑leading personal time‑off policy.
  • Well‑being support and reimbursement for wellness initiatives.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion with a workplace culture of respect and inclusion.
  • Flexibility in work location: blend of office, client site, and virtual work.
  • Code of Conduct and ethical decision‑making principles.
