Your Opportunity

Stantec’s Power team in western Canada currently offers opportunities for Electrical Engineers to work on HV/EHV AC and DC substation projects across North America. As part of a multi‑disciplinary team you’ll develop efficient and reliable substations, coordinate planning and design activities, and ensure project schedules and completion.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform engineering studies such as power flow, short circuit, grounding, lightning protection, insulation coordination, TRV, cable ampacity, rigid and flexible bus, and lighting.
• Conduct detailed design of substations, including switchyard layouts, sections, grounding plans, cable routing, AC/DC distribution, equipment specifications, single line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, marking, and design calculations.
• Prepare technical specifications for major equipment, construction, and testing & commissioning.
• Provide technical support for procurement, construction, and commissioning.
• Assist in preparing proposals, project plans and estimates.
• Mentor and support junior engineers.
• Coordinate with other disciplines during project execution to solve technical issues.
• Follow internal QA/QC procedures to deliver high‑quality engineering service.
• Conduct site visits to verify existing installations, define project scope, and provide construction site support.
• Drafting work may be required.

Capabilities & Credentials

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Power Systems.
• Experience in PSSE, PSCAD, ETAP, CDEGS, WinIGS, MathCAD is an asset.
• Field experience in commissioning and testing is an asset.
• Knowledge in Civil/Structural and P&C is an asset.
• Equipment engineering experience is an asset.
• Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and MicroStation.
• Effective interpersonal skills (written, verbal) to interact with multidisciplinary teams, suppliers, sub‑consultants, and build client relationships.
• Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Valid driver’s license.

Education & Experience

• Minimum 6 years of proven direct detailed design and engineering experience related to high‑voltage substations for utilities in North America.
• Professional Engineer registration (P.Eng) required.

Location & Work Environment

Primary location: Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Typical office environment with computer work. Stantec offers a flexible hybrid model. Field work may include exposure to inclement weather.

Compensation & Benefits

Pay ranges are provided where required. Final compensation is based on education, qualifications, experience, and work location. Certain roles are bonus eligible. Part‑time roles will be pro‑rated.
