At Alstom, we understand transport networks and what moves people. From high‑speed trains, metros, monorails, and trams, to turnkey systems, services, infrastructure, signalling and digital mobility, we offer our diverse customers the broadest portfolio in the industry. Every day, more than 80,000 colleagues lead the way to greener and smarter mobility worldwide, connecting cities as we reduce carbon and replace cars.

Could you be the full‑time Electrification Compatibility Engineer in Toronto, ON? We’re looking for you.

Take on a new challenge and apply your electrical engineering expertise in a cutting‑edge field. You’ll work alongside collaborative and innovative teammates.

You’ll play a key role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of railway systems by analyzing and implementing EMC requirements. Day‑to‑day, you’ll work closely with teams across the business (including design, testing, and commissioning teams), coordinate with internal and external stakeholders on technical aspects, and contribute to the development and implementation of electrification compatibility strategies, and much more.

You’ll specifically take care of reviewing and approving design documents related to grounding, bonding, and EMC/EMI, while also managing subcontractors and providing technical support for testing and commissioning activities.

Responsibilities

  • Participating in railway system analysis

  • Coordinating Grounding & Bonding, EMC, and Performance Simulation activities with subject matter experts
  • Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders on technical aspects related to Grounding & Bonding, EMC/EMI, Immunization, Electrification Compatibility, and corrosion
  • Defining and implementing immunization and electrification compatibility strategies for various infrastructure elements
  • Managing subcontractors, including qualification, selection, progress tracking, performance, and invoicing
  • Reviewing and approving design documents related to Grounding & Bonding and EMC/EMI
  • Participating in change analysis and identifying technical risks
  • Supporting testing and commissioning activities
  • Defining and implementing integration principles between subsystems and stakeholders

Qualifications

We value passion and attitude over experience. That’s why we don’t expect you to have every single skill. Instead, we’ve listed some that we think will help you succeed and grow in this role:

  • University degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or in the process of obtaining it
  • At least 10 years of experience in engineering/technical functions, including 5 years in railway projects (preferred)
  • Working experience in railway systems, operating requirements, and subsystems
  • Knowledge and experience in Grounding & Bonding and EMC in railway environments
  • Familiarity with Traction Power Supply and Catenary Systems (preferred 25kV AC Traction System)
  • Strong organizational, coordination, and communication skills
  • Ability to lead and manage system engineering topics effectively
  • Fluent in English
  • Knowledge and understanding of standards such as Canadian Electrical Code, EN 50121 series, EN 50122 series, IEEE 80, IEC 61000 series, AREMA
  • PMP designation (an asset)
  • Knowledge of and experience with systems engineering (an asset)

Benefits

Join us on a life‑long transformative journey – the rail industry is here to stay, so you can grow and develop new skills and experiences throughout your career. You’ll also:

  • Enjoy stability, challenges, and a long‑term career free from boring daily routines
  • Work with new security standards for rail signalling
  • Collaborate with transverse teams and helpful colleagues
  • Contribute to innovative projects
  • Utilise our inclusive and dynamic working environment
  • Steer your career in whatever direction you choose across functions and countries
  • Benefit from our investment in your development, through award‑winning learning
  • Progress towards leadership or specialised technical roles
  • Benefit from a fair and dynamic reward package that recognises your performance and potential, plus comprehensive and competitive social coverage (life, medical, pension)

Compensation

The expected compensation for this role is $90,000 – $120,000 CAD per year, plus benefits and eligibility for an annual performance bonus. Final compensation will be based on skills, experience, and internal equity.
