Job description

Americas

Worley Consulting is a global group of consultants, scientists, engineers, and digital experts dedicated to solving the world’s critical infrastructure, environmental, energy, and resource challenges. We partner with our customers to find solutions that create value over the life of their assets. We implement new technologies to run assets more efficiently, secure and safeguard social license, support local communities, and accelerate the energy transition. We evaluate options and identify opportunities and risks to support our customers’ decision making. We assist with asset strategy and selection, business case preparation, concept and feasibility studies, technology evaluation, energy strategies and asset operational excellence.

This position supports Worley Consulting’s Autonomous Mining & Technology initiatives by providing high‑quality technical solutions, documentation, analytical support, and coordination across Mine Automation & Technology projects, across Canada, the U.S., and South America.

Purpose

The iROC Mining Technical Consultant supports Worley Consulting’s Autonomous & Operatonal Technology initiatives by enabling successful delivery of automation and integrated remote operations center (iROC) solutions. The role provides technical coordination, analysis, and high‑quality documentation to help clients define requirements, evaluate technology options, and execute projects that improve safety, reliability, and productivity across surface and/or underground operations.

This is a full‑time hybrid position based at a Worley office location in Canada or the U.S.

Overall Responsibilities And Key Accountabilities

  • Support Mining Automation and Technology Subject Matter Experts across autonomous mining and technology projects.
  • Create, consolidate, and maintain high‑quality technical deliverables including reports, market analysis, presentations, and automation deliverables for the client.
  • Ensure consistency and alignment of technical content with project requirements and standards.
  • Analyze and interpret technical information to support decision‑making and recommendations.
  • Support execution of assigned work packages with a high level of independence.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams including telecom, mechatronics, digital, automation, and consulting disciplines.
  • Provide clear and effective written and verbal communication to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Apply Worley processes, systems, and quality requirements consistently.
  • Support continuous improvement of documentation workflows and knowledge management practices.
  • Approximately 25% travel is expected. The role is hybrid and 3 days per week is expected in office when not traveling.

What You Will Bring

Technical and Industry Experience

  • Significant experience in mining operations, projects, or consulting, with exposure to automation, Tele remote or autonomous systems.
  • Demonstrated experience with iROC design, implementation and operation.
  • Experience implementing an iROC at scale in a working mine is critical – experience with a company well known for advanced deployment of iROCs is a plus.
  • Knowledge of production KPIs (throughput, recovery, equipment utilization).
  • Understanding controls integration and hands‑on experience with SCADA / DCS systems / PLC systems / Real‑time data acquisition and historian systems. Experience integrating one or more of these systems is a plus.
  • Experience with data pipelines and industrial IoT architectures.
  • Able to articulate what decisions an iROC provides and the value it has to transform operations.
  • Able to articulate and manage the design of end‑to‑end architectures (edge → network → cloud → control room) across OT systems (fleet management, plant control, maintenance).
  • Experience designing control rooms / operator workflows with an understanding of alarm management and cognitive load.
  • Familiarity with standards like International Organization for Standardization (e.g., ergonomics, control room design).
  • Ability to map roles: what stays onsite vs moves to iROC.
  • Experience leading multi‑site digital transformation projects including stakeholder alignment (operations, IT, maintenance, leadership) and change management in traditionally conservative environments.

Consulting And Professional Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with a practical engineering mindset.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and succinctly with operations, technical teams, OEMs, and client stakeholders.
  • Comfortable working in multidisciplinary teams across engineering and digital domains.
  • Self‑motivated, adaptable, and capable of managing multiple workstreams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while integrating effectively with project teams.
  • Proactive, self‑motivated, and results‑driven mindset.
  • Able to identify novel and innovative solutions to tough business problems and advocate them to the client.
  • Exposure to autonomous haulage systems, remote drilling, etc.
  • Understanding of what works vs. what fails in iROC deployments.

Education – Qualifications, Accreditation, Training

  • Degree in Mining Engineering or related engineering discipline (Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Controls, Computer).
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng. / P.E.) preferred where applicable.
  • Training or familiarity with mining safety standards (e.g., MSHA or equivalent).
  • Exposure to data, analytics, or digital mining platforms is increasingly valued.
