Job description

Fundraising & Communications Coordinator

Salary: $65,000 to $70,000 annually
Remote role (BC) with benefits
**Some in-person meetings and event attendance may be required.

Help tell the stories that help families feel less alone.

We are looking for a Fundraising & Communications Coordinator to help strengthen how FamilySmart shares its work, communicates its impact, and engages donors, funders, partners, and community supporters.

This is a role for someone who can take meaningful program work and turn it into clear, thoughtful, human communications. You are part writer, part organizer, part relationship-builder, and part “I can make that easier” person. You know how to listen for the story, find the through-line, and create communications that people understand, care about, and want to support.

You will work closely with the CEO and program leaders to coordinate fundraising activities, donor communications, grant and funding submissions, campaigns, newsletters, website content, and impact storytelling.

What You’ll Be Accountable For

Fundraising Coordination

You will support fundraising and donor engagement activities, including:

  • Coordinate donor communications, stewardship activities, fundraising campaigns, and related follow-up

  • Prepare materials for fundraising meetings, proposals, donor updates, grant applications, and campaign activities

  • Track donor communications, funding opportunities, timelines, submissions, and required documentation

  • Support grant and funding submissions by coordinating internal inputs, materials, and follow-up

  • Help ensure donors, funders, and supporters understand FamilySmart’s reach, outcomes, and impact

Communications & Content

You will help keep FamilySmart’s communications clear, consistent, and connected to the work, including:

  • Draft and edit content for newsletters, website updates, announcements, events, campaigns, and reports

  • Support external communications that reflect FamilySmart’s voice, values, and mission

  • Help prepare communication materials for leadership and Board updates

  • Maintain consistent messaging across fundraising, program, and external communications

Program Storytelling & Impact

You will work with program teams to gather the stories, updates, and outcomes that show the impact of FamilySmart’s work, including:

  • Translate program information into clear, engaging communications

  • Gather stories, updates, themes, and impact details from program leaders and teams

  • Create content that highlights program outcomes and community impact

  • Support thoughtful storytelling that is respectful, accurate, and aligned with the organization’s mission

Systems, Tools & Workflow

You will help keep communications and donor-related systems organized by:

  • Maintain donor and communications tracking systems

  • Support digital tools used for newsletters, website content, outreach, and campaigns

  • Use tools such as Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, email marketing platforms, website systems, CRM or donor databases, and social media platforms

  • Identify opportunities to streamline communications workflows, including the thoughtful use of AI-supported writing and communication tools where appropriate

What We’d Like to See on Your Resume

Please show us where you have experience with:

  • Fundraising, donor engagement, communications, marketing, public relations, nonprofit development, or social impact work

  • Writing, editing, and storytelling for different audiences

  • Coordinating campaigns, newsletters, events, donor updates, grant submissions, or communications projects

  • Working with nonprofit organizations, community programs, or mission-driven teams

  • Using communications, donor, website, email marketing, CRM, social media, or AI-supported writing tools

  • Grant research, funding submissions, proposals, or donor/funder communications would be considered an asset

  • Lived or living experience as a parent, caregiver, family member, or supporter navigating child or youth mental health and/or substance use systems would be considered an asset

  • Post-secondary education in communications, sales, public relations, marketing, nonprofit management, or a related field is preferred, but equivalent experience will also be considered

What We’ll Be Looking For in the Interview

We’ll want to understand how you:

  • Build trust with program teams and gather information without making people feel chased

  • Turn complex or sensitive work into clear, respectful, compelling communications

  • Manage multiple timelines, campaigns, and priorities without dropping details

  • Write with warmth, clarity, and purpose

  • Bring curiosity, humility, and good judgment to mission-driven work

  • Think about storytelling ethically, especially when the work involves families, children, youth, mental health, and substance use

What Success Looks Like

In this role, success means:

  • Fundraising initiatives are well-coordinated and supported with strong communications materials

  • Donor and funder communications are timely, thoughtful, and aligned with organizational priorities

  • Program stories and impact are communicated clearly and consistently

  • Program teams and leadership feel supported in sharing the impact of their work

  • Communications systems, timelines, and workflows are organized and easier to manage

Why Join FamilySmart?

FamilySmart supports parents and caregivers of children and youth experiencing mental health and/or substance use challenges. Our work is grounded in compassion, connection, practical help, service navigation, peer support, and lived experience.

This role helps make that work visible. By telling the stories, coordinating communications, and supporting fundraising efforts that sustain the mission, you will help FamilySmart continue reaching families who need connection, understanding, and support.

FamilySmart values lived and living experience and welcomes applicants whose personal, family, or caregiving experiences have shaped their understanding of child and youth mental health and/or substance use systems. Applicants are not required to disclose personal details during the hiring process.

FamilySmart is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Personnel are chosen on the basis of ability without regard to age, ancestry, colour, family status, marital status, physical or mental disability, place of origin, political belief, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, or criminal conviction unrelated to employment.
