Job description

What This Role Involves:

CCS is seeking a bilingual Credit Counsellor (fluent in both English and French). As a Credit Counsellor, you are passionate about supporting clients as they navigate financial challenges. You provide compassionate guidance to help them find solutions for managing debt, overcoming barriers, and achieving their financial goals.

In this role, you will:

  • Assess clients’ financial situations, helping them gain a clear understanding of their income, expenses, and debt obligations.

  • Provide personalized options and strategies to help them effectively manage and resolve their debts.

  • In some cases, offer ongoing support through a Debt Management Program, which enables clients to pay off their debts with interest relief.

  • Serve as a trusted resource, answering questions and following up to ensure clients stay on track toward financial stability.

As part of our commitment to delivering a consistent, high-quality counselling experience, successful candidates will receive comprehensive training and are required to complete the Accredited Financial Counsellor Canada (AFCC) certification within two years of their start date.

What We Offer:

The starting salary range for this role is $55,313 - $63,362, which may vary based on geographic location. Consideration will be given to previous education and experience that exceeds the requirements of the role.

In addition, we offer an annual salary review process each January, so the successful candidate can expect to receive regular increases to their salary, subject to meeting established performance objectives.

We are proud to qualify as a Great Place to Work! Our employees love the close-knit team environment and the commitment to work-life balance, which includes a 35 hour work week and generous time off provisions! It’s important to us that every member of our team feels safe, supported, and respected at work.

We are all rewarded by the meaningful work we do, and the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of our clients each day. Our team has the opportunity to work remotely on a hybrid basis, and even though we aren’t in the same office, we have chat groups and activities supported by our Culture Club, to offer our team the chance to develop relationships and have some fun at work too!

In addition to a great workplace culture, our employee experience and compensation package includes:

  • Three weeks vacation to start, plus 3 CCS days to use at your discretion and 6 Sick/Personal Days each year. These benefits will be prorated for your first year of employment.

  • A comprehensive health and wellness benefits package, including Prescription Coverage, Extended Health and Dental Coverage, a Health Spending Account, and a Wellness Spending Account. These benefits will be prorated in your first year of employment.

  • A long-term savings program with employer matching (up to 5% in the first 5 years of employment, with increases upon completion of 5, 10, and 15 years).

  • Educational reimbursements (up to $2,500/year).

  • The opportunity to participate in our two-level employee development program and supplemental mentoring relationships to support those interested in furthering their professional growth.

  • Celebration of personal and organizational milestones, including a paid day off when moving or getting married, as well as gifts for important events like having a child or celebrating a milestone service anniversary.

  • Employee and family assistance program that offers counselling support as well as a wide variety of support resources.

What We Are Looking For:

The ideal candidate will bring the following skills and qualifications:

  • Fluency in both English and French, in written and verbal communication.

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma (an asset but not required).

  • Three to five years of experience in financial services, counselling, social services, or related fields.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a genuine desire to help people and collaborate as part of a team.

  • Goal-oriented mindset, motivated by achieving objectives and supporting others in reaching their goals.

  • Strong ability to influence and guide others, including addressing concerns and overcoming objections.

  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time effectively.

  • Availability to work variable shifts scheduled between 7:30 AM and 8:00 PM (local time). Flexibility, including early mornings, may be required. Six Saturday shifts per year are also required.

Who We Are:

CCS is an accredited non-profit organization that provides financial support and guidance to individuals facing financial challenges. Every year, we make a difference in the lives of thousands of people, helping them take back control of their finances.

Our mission: We Help. We Educate. We Give Hope.

CCS is dedicated to fostering a diverse, inclusive, and equitable workplace for employees, clients, and stakeholders of all backgrounds, identities, and abilities. To learn more, please see our Commitment to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.

Work Environment:

  • Full-time, predominately remote position (within Canada).

  • If located near a CCS office, employees may be asked to work in-office up to one day per week.

  • Periodic in-person meetings or events may be required, with advance notice.

  • We foster strong team connections through online chat groups and culture-building activities.

How to Apply:

If this opportunity sounds like a great fit for you, we’d love to hear from you! Please submit your resume and cover letter, outlining your interest in the role and the skills you bring.

We understand that candidates may use generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT) to review their application documents, but we ask you to craft your documents and open-text responses personally so we can get to know you better! We reserve the right not to proceed with applications from candidates who submit AI-generated text, or who otherwise use AI tools to support their responses in an interview process.

We are an equal opportunity employer and encourage applications from members of marginalized communities, including but not limited to: Indigenous peoples (First Nations, Métis, Inuit), racialized individuals, persons with disabilities, individuals of all gender identities and expressions, LGBTQ2+ individuals, newcomers to Canada, and persons from diverse socio-economic backgrounds.

Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada on a full-time basis. Due to the volume of applications, only those selected for interviews will be contacted. Thank you for your interest!
