This position can be located in St. John's or Halifax.

Your role

Reporting to the CBC Senior Managing Director of Atlantic and Quebec regions, you will play a key role in implementing CBC’s National Indigenous Strategy in the Atlantic Region. You will help the public broadcaster deepen its connections with Indigenous communities in the East to increase their representation in our workforce and content.

You will work with senior leadership to determine actions and deliverables to meet strategic objectives. You will devise and coordinate initiatives aimed at identifying and promoting Indigenous talent and content in the Atlantic region. You will lead on developing plans to bring people in Indigenous communities in the region together with CBC, to exchange thoughts and ideas about the priorities of community members. These exchanges will inform programming choices.

You will provide counsel, expertise and recommendations to management and programming staff to determine talent development needs and facilitate strategic decision-making. You will work with some independence and with the support and collaboration of the management team in the Atlantic region. You will also work in partnership with Indigenous leaders across the organization to further the goals of the CBC/Radio-Canada National Indigenous Strategy.

You have well-developed leadership and communication skills and the ability to mentor and support staff. You have experience as a facilitator in Indigenous communities.

As Atlantic Advisor, Indigenous Engagement and Content Growth, you will have the following responsibilities:

● Facilitate Indigenous participation in public broadcasting by identifying and engaging with Indigenous creators in the Atlantic Region.

● Act as the primary regional lead for the Atlantic region’s contribution to the National Indigenous Strategy (NIS) reporting framework, ensuring regional initiatives are captured

● Support the implementation of the Indigenous Pathways Program and the INSPIRE Mentorship program within the Atlantic region to foster local talent and support retention

● Build community engagement projects that make space for community members to share perspectives and priorities with CBC content creators and journalists to deepen mutual understanding

● Collaborate regularly with the Indigenous Office Senior Specialists to align regional outreach with national efforts in Learning & Development, Communications, and Procurement

● Facilitate community gatherings, as needed, on behalf of CBC, in collaboration with the Senior Director of the National Indigenous Strategy for CBC ● Guide and support the creation of content that is relevant to members of Indigenous communities and -- in collaboration with the community -- help expand the range of voices and perspectives in our programming.

● Focus on engaging with Indigenous youth, fostering their interest in pursuing careers in the media.

● Share your knowledge of Indigenous issues and perspectives with the leadership team.

● Establish and grow relationships between CBC and Indigenous people across the region

● Mentor and support Indigenous staff working at CBC in Atlantic Canada and Quebec

● Participate in the Indigenous Office Team Leads/Chefs D'équipes meetings as required to ensure regional alignment with national operational changes and policy shifts

● Offer your expertise to CBC Atlantic content producers as needed.

● Represent CBC at outreach events and activities, as needed.

We are looking for a candidate with the following:

● Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) along with five to seven years’ relevant experience in diversity and inclusion and/or in community work.

● Strong proven connection, experience and knowledge of Indigenous culture and communities in the Atlantic region.

● Facilitation experience in Indigenous communities.

● Experience in content creation in the media industry is an asset.

● Experience handling multiple priorities.

● Proven ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams in an everchanging environment; ability to deal with key stakeholders and internal partners (i.e., Marketing and Communications, Radio-Canada, other teams, etc.); ability to successfully maintain external partnerships.

● Proven capabilities in problem solving and conflict resolution.

● Interest in organizational culture, workflow improvement and business innovation.

● Proven work ethic of being inclusive in diverse teams.

● Ability to work well in a team, take initiative and be adaptable.

● Emotional and cultural intelligence.

● Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

● Willingness to travel as needed.

Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.

We thank all applicants for their interest, but only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.

As part of our recruitment process, candidates who advance to the next

step will be asked to complete a background check. This includes:

  • A mandatory Criminal record check.

  • Other background checks may be conducted based on the operational requirements of the position.
