Job Description

The Opportunity

The Corporate Human Resources Manager acts as the HR Business Partner for S&R Group in Long-Term Care and Seniors Living operations across Southwestern Ontario. If you are interested in supporting the Residents in your community on a larger scale, then this is your opportunity! We are looking for a well-rounded, seasoned HR Generalist who thrives on providing hands-on support to a team of leaders who are passionate about making a difference in seniors’ lives.

You will travel frequently to the Homes and be available to provide support, guidance, solutions and training in employee & labour relations, performance management, time and attendance, recruitment and development in line with S&R culture, best practices and policies, applicable legislation and collective agreements. You are passionate about effectively implementing and maintaining HR programs at each of the Homes to help support the strategic people-objectives. This is an excellent opportunity to balance working independently, as well as part of a HR Team and interdisciplinary resident-focused team.

What you will be doing:

  • Provide employee and labour relations guidance to local and regional leaders on interpretation and application of policies and procedures, the collective agreement and employment related legislation, including fact finding, outcome recommendations and grievance management
  • Support the local leader recruitment process by partnering with the hiring manager to attract, assess and hire top talent, ensuring alignment with organizational workforce plans and hiring standards
  • Provide guidance, coaching and resources to leaders related to performance and attendance management processes, including situations requiring coaching, counselling, progressive discipline or discharge
  • Maintain a community of practice with the Clinical Resource Managers and/or Clinical Resource Coordinators to identify patterns and trends, discuss solutions, share learnings, etc.
  • Train all new leaders on the Attendance Program, review the program annually to ensure it meets the business and legislative requirements; communicate and distribute the terms and conditions of the revised Attendance Program to all applicable facilities
  • Work with Clinical Resource Managers and/or Clinical Resource Coordinators at the Homes to develop time and attendance monitoring reports to review site specific attendance rates and frequencies and support them as they work with local leaders to manage team members in the Attendance Program; ensure they are consulting the Corporate Director, Health & Wellness for non-culpable absenteeism related to workplace and non-occupational illness and/or injury
  • Drive annual team member engagement survey participation in conjunction with local and regional leaders, review results and work collaboratively with local and regional leaders to create and rollout effective action plans targeted to meet the needs of each team
  • Work with Clinical Resource Manager and/or Clinical Resource Coordinators to ensure new team members have a fulsome onboarding experience, including having completed all mandatory training requirements, been welcomed and introduced to teammates and participated in shadow days
  • Review, analyze and provide insights on people metrics for each Home, including turnover, absenteeism, compliance, unfilled shifts, agency utilization, etc.
  • Work closely with other members of the Human Resources Team to provide perspective and insights on operational needs as they relate to each of their areas of practice, including talent acquisition, health & well-being, compensation, rewards & recognition, leadership development, culture, engagement, etc.
  • Support the maintenance of Human Resources policies and procedures as they relate to employee and labour relations, performance and attendance management and/or operations
  • Develop internal and external business partnerships with an aim to enhance and evolve the team member experience and retention
  • Promote and support a positive and encouraging work culture at each Home

Qualifications

What we’re looking for:

  • You have a degree, diploma or certificate from a recognized university or college in Human Resources, Labour Management, Industrial Relations or Business Administration
  • You have a minimum of 3-5 years progressive Human Resources experience in a formal advisory or partnership role with proven success as a Human Resources Generalist, ideally supporting team members in multiple locations
  • Experience in a unionized environment is required
  • Experience working with seniors is an asset
  • You have sound knowledge of human resources practices, theories, trends, case law and employment legislation in Ontario

  • You want to have fun with your teammates, bring your whole self to work and creatively/collaboratively solve real problems with meaning and purpose
