Job descriptionRole Overview We are seeking a warm, patient, and highly intentional Childcare Provider to join our family on a full-time basis (note: this includes assisting at and after meal times). This role is ideal for an experienced educator, caregiver, or parent who constructs a trauma-informed, strengths-based, and child-led environment for our children (2 under 2). Our home values minimal screen time; unprocessed, low-sugar, balanced, and locally sourced meals; and positive and friendly communication. If you are passionate about respectful child development, possess a natural and collaborative attitude toward curiosity, and are interested in ideas like permaculture or homesteading, you will fit right in with our family’s lifestyle and values. NOTE: We live in a rural area 30 minutes from the nearest bus station or train station. We have a large property but there are no sidewalks in our area to walk anywhere as we are fairly rural. (This is important for somebody to understand if you do not have a vehicle or are coming from a distance.) Key Responsibilities Child-Led Care & Development: Support and engage with a toddler and infant using strengths-based, child-led play. Read non-verbal cues and communication, particularly with the infant. Nutritional Meal Preparation: Prepare wholesome, unprocessed meals and snacks from scratch. Our meals include smoothies, quesadillas, Crock-Pot mac and cheese, butter chicken, pork ramen, gluten-free pancakes, and homemade salad dressings. Maintain a low-to-no-sugar standard for the children. Positive Guidance: Maintain an environment free of harsh tones, labels, or negative name-calling. Use positive self-talk, patience, and anatomically correct language to foster healthy emotional and physical development. Household Boundaries & Alignment: Follow the parents' lead regarding routines and keep strict personal/professional boundaries (e.g., designated house/car zones and off-limits areas). What We Are Looking For (Qualifications) Ideal Background: A diploma in ECE, CYW, or SSW is highly valued—but education alone is not the make-or-break. Significant life/parenting/employment experiences paired with the right temperament will be the ideal candidate. Core Attributes: Honest, patient, curious, a lifelong learner, and someone who possesses excellent judgment. An ability to multitask, bring order to chaos, and be the anchor in the storm are also needed in this role. Accountability & Insight: A strong understanding of cause-and-effect with the ability to take personal accountability and provide objective, accurate reporting of daily events. Clearances: Must possess or be willing to immediately obtain a recent Vulnerable Sector Check, a CAS child welfare background check, and a clean Driver’s Abstract. Property & Safety Notes: No tobacco, CBD, or alcohol products may be brought onto the premises. Candidates must like dogs. Employment Terms & Compensation Employment Status: This is a fully professional position. The successful candidate must be able and willing to provide official receipts/invoices (this is not a cash-under-the-table role). Pay will be via e-transfer on a bi-weekly basis. Final employment hourly rate to be negotiated. Application & Selection Process We view caregiving as a holistic role where your life journey matters as much as your workplace history. Our thorough process to consider bringing you into our childrens’ lives includes: Application Submission: Please submit your Resume, Cover Letter, and 3 References (not family members) detailing how you are the ideal candidate. Oral Interview: A formal conversation to discuss alignment, values, and experience. Paid Working Interview: A 4-hour paid working interview (a weeknight from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM). Note: A clear Child Welfare Background Check must be provided in advance to complete the working interview.
