John Zink, a Koch Engineered Solutions business, is hiring a Field Service Technician within the Fired Equipment Group supporting customer sites across Canada, with a primary focus on Alberta.
In this role, you will serve as a field expert—supporting the installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintenance of industrial fired equipment that is critical to safe and reliable operations. You will work directly at customer sites, partnering with operations and maintenance teams to provide technical guidance, resolve issues, and improve overall system performance.

TravelThis is a home-based role where you will operate from your location while traveling to customer sites nationwide approximately 75% of the time. Candidates must live within reasonable commuting distance of a major airport to effectively support travel requirements.

What You Will Do
- Travel from your home base to customer facilities to support installation, inspection, troubleshooting, and repair of fired equipment across industrial heating applications
- Provide end-to-end field service support including installation oversight, commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintenance recommendations to ensure safe and reliable operation
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and control system issues on combustion systems, including burners, fuel trains, valves, dampers, and associated hardware
- Provide technical expertise on register burners, duct burners, and utility burners, including startup support, tuning, and performance optimization
- Interpret P&IDs, electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and system layouts to identify issues and implement effective field solutions
- Support and interface with instrumentation and control systems (PLCs, HMIs, and control logic) to assist with system operation and troubleshooting
- Calibrate, test, and maintain field instrumentation including transmitters, valves, actuators, and loop devices
- Lead with safety in all aspects of field execution, proactively identifying and mitigating risk while working in industrial environments
- Build strong, trust-based relationships with customer operations and maintenance teams through clear communication and consistent, high-quality service
- Maintain accurate documentation including service reports and updates to drawings while adhering to safety and compliance expectations
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
- Experience troubleshooting, installing, and maintaining industrial mechanical, electrical, or instrumentation systems
- Familiarity with PLC-based control systems (e.g., Honeywell, Allen-Bradley, GE), including troubleshooting or interfacing with control systems
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, electrical schematics, and control system drawings
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel approximately 75–90% of the time
- Valid passport or ability to obtain one
- Ability to reside within reasonable travel distance of a major airport
- Current authorization to work in Canada for any employer without requiring visa or work permit sponsorship now or in the future.
Physical requirements:- Ability to safely perform physical job duties, including lifting (up to 75 lbs occasionally), bending, stooping, climbing, and navigating industrial environments
- Ability to work outdoors and in varying environmental conditions, including extended or irregular workdays
- Ability to work in confined or enclosed spaces as needed
What Will Put You Ahead- Field service experience supporting industrial fired equipment or combustion systems
- Experience with OEM burner systems (e.g., John Zink, Coen, TODD, Peabody)
- Experience performing startup, tuning, and performance optimization of burners
- Experience working with PLC systems in combustion, boiler, or steam generation applications
- Gas Fitter A Certification
For this role, we anticipate an hourly rate of $50+ CAD an hour as we are open to candidates from a wide range of career levels. This role is eligible for variable pay, issued as a monetary bonus or in another form.
