Job Details
The City of St. Albert is recruiting an individual to join our Community Services department as a Public Art Registrar. Reporting to the Visual Arts Coordinator, this position will ensure that artworks remain safe, stable, and accessible through planning, maintenance, and oversight
across their full life cycle.
Responsibilities
- Assess, document, and monitor the condition of artworks, preparing condition reports, and maintaining records.
- Plan and oversee the maintenance of the public art collection and maintain records of completed artworks.
- Lead conservation planning and collections management systems that ensure ongoing care and documentation of public art assets.
- Provide technical leadership to internal departments and to the Art Development Advisory Committee, ensuring integration of public art is a consideration in capital projects and public spaces.
- Provide maintenance requirements for new public art commissions.
- Review detailed design reports for new public artworks to advise or identify risks, material sustainability, and provide quality assurance throughout fabrication and installation.
- Provide project management for conservation and restoration projects including developing specifications, leading the procurement and contracting of contractors and consultants, overseeing project delivery, reviewing deliverables and conducting quality inspections.
- Assist the Visual Arts Coordinator in the review of proposed new artwork locations.
- Provide recommendations on accessioning, deaccessioning, or relocation of artworks in accordance with established policy and collections management standards.
- This position may support the Visual Arts Coordinator with International Childrens’ Festival of the Arts programming and delivery.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, Arts and Cultural Management with two years of related experience is required.
- Certificate in Heritage or Museum Conservation, Engineering, Project Management or Architectural Training is an asset.
- Practical experience with a mixed art collection and public art is preferred.Equivalent combinations of experience and education may be considered.
Hours of Work
- Benefit from flexible work hours by adjusting your start and end times by 30 or 60 minutes around our core hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- We offer a compressed bi-weekly work schedule of 18 hours, Monday - Friday, between the hours of 8:00 – 5:00.
Compensation
- The salary ranges from $32.13 - $38.87 per hour, including a comprehensive benefits package with a flexible spending account, pension plan, and accrued paid vacation starting at 1.5 weeks per year.

- Candidates not meeting the full qualifications may be considered for a development opportunity at a lower classification and salary.

- Eligible to apply for a Hybrid Remote Work arrangement, with a minimum of 51% of work time spent onsite and the remainder worked remotely. Employees are eligible to participate in this program after 3 months of employment, subject to satisfactory performance.
