This is an excellent opportunity for a recent science graduate or early-career professional looking to gain hands-on experience in an environmental laboratory environment.

While the role includes some laboratory support responsibilities, the primary focus is supporting our Sample Reception team during our busiest season.

You will play a critical role in ensuring environmental samples are received, processed, organized, and prepared accurately while providing excellent customer service to clients and supporting laboratory operations.

This is a fully onsite position located at 465 George Street, Sydney, NS working Monday through Friday during standard business hours.

You will work directly with environmental samples including water, soil, and air while learning the processes that support environmental testing and public health initiatives.

Develop technical and customer-facing skills.

This role offers a unique combination of laboratory operations, sample processing, logistics coordination, and customer interaction, helping you build a versatile skill set.

Learn and grow.

As you become proficient in core responsibilities, there may be opportunities to expand your knowledge through cross-training and exposure to additional laboratory functions.

Potential for future opportunities.

While this position is being hired as a seasonal contract through December 2026, strong performance and business needs may create opportunities for contract extension or longer-term employment.

Deliver exceptional customer service.

You will greet clients, answer basic inquiries, support bottle pickup requests, and help create a positive experience for customers visiting the laboratory.

Coordinate sample logistics.

You will prepare sample shipments, organize incoming and outgoing coolers, label bottles, assemble sample kits, and support the efficient movement of samples throughout the testing process.

Ensure quality and accuracy.

You will maintain accurate records, follow established procedures, and help ensure sample integrity and compliance with quality and safety requirements.

Assist laboratory operations.

As workload permits, you may support laboratory preparation activities and gain exposure to additional testing and laboratory procedures.

What you bring Customer-focused communication.

You are comfortable interacting with clients in person and over the phone.

You communicate professionally, remain positive under pressure, and possess strong verbal and written communication skills.

Attention to detail.

You understand the importance of accuracy and take pride in following procedures, maintaining records, and ensuring work is completed correctly the first time.
