Location: Cambridge, ON (4 days on-site, 1 day remote when possible) | Occasional travel to Woodstock, ON
Type: Contract through end of March , with strong potential to extend
Industry: Automotive Manufacturing
About the Role
Our client, a leading automotive manufacturer, is looking for an Infrastructure Engineer to join their Host Infrastructure team. This team owns the organization's virtualized server environment, collaboration room technology, and core IT systems supporting plant operations across two facilities.
This is a hands-on, generalist role for someone who thrives on variety. You won't be siloed into a single specialty - you'll work across virtualization, storage, identity management, and collaboration technology, with the opportunity to grow your skill set across all of them. The team is in the middle of several modernization initiatives, including a recent virtualization platform migration, SAN replacement, and infrastructure standardization work, so there's no shortage of interesting problems to solve.
This role would suit someone early-to-mid career who is technically curious, comfortable learning new tools independently, and excited to grow into a broader infrastructure skill set rather than someone looking to apply deep specialization in a single technology.
What You'll Do
- Administer and troubleshoot the organization's virtualized server environment (Nutanix, VMware)
- Support Windows Server administration, including patching, performance tuning, and troubleshooting
- Manage SAN storage infrastructure, including provisioning and troubleshooting
- Support and help modernize collaboration room technology (Microsoft Teams Rooms, Crestron AV systems) across approximately 50 rooms
- Provide support for telephony systems (Cisco, Avaya — VoIP and analog)
- Contribute to infrastructure projects including storage replacements, backup infrastructure upgrades, and patching standardization initiatives
- Participate in an on-call rotation supporting after-hours and weekend maintenance windows
- Use automation and AI tools (PowerShell, Ansible, Copilot, ChatGPT) to improve documentation, troubleshooting, and operational efficiency where possible
- Work cross-functionally with vendors and other infrastructure teams to resolve issues and implement solutions
What We're Looking For
Must-Haves
- Hands-on experience with VMware and/or virtualization platforms
- Windows Server administration experience
- Experience with enterprise storage/SAN environments
- Strong project and time management skills — ability to balance support tickets, incidents, and project work
- A genuine self-starter mentality: comfortable researching, testing, and learning new technologies independently
Nice-to-Haves (areas you'll have the opportunity to grow into)
- Nutanix administration
- Active Directory (DNS, DHCP, Group Policy)
- Red Hat Linux administration
- Microsoft Teams Rooms / AV systems (Crestron)
- Backup and recovery tools (Cohesity)
- Kubernetes / container orchestration
- PowerShell or Ansible scripting
- Microsoft administration
You don't need to check every box above. We're more interested in your ability to learn quickly, take ownership of problems, and grow your skill set over time than in having deep expertise across every listed technology on day one.
Work Environment
- Primarily on-site in Cambridge, ON, with occasional visits to Woodstock, ON for hands-on infrastructure work
- The team operates across day and night shifts, with regular weekend work required for maintenance windows that can't be performed on live systems
- Flexible scheduling to offset weekend work with reduced hours during the week
- Equipment provided (laptop, mobile device)
Interview Process
- Candidates will be evaluated against a detailed skills matrix
- Selected candidates will complete a short technical/scripting assessment (use of AI tools is welcome)
- A single interview round, ideally on-site, with the hiring manager and team
