Who We Are

Simon Fraser University is a leading research university, advancing an inclusive and sustainable future. Our purpose – the essence of SFU – is to create and connect knowledge, learning and community for deeper understanding and meaningful impact. We are committed to fostering excellence, innovation, belonging and community in all that we do.

In the School of Medicine, we are committed to shaping the future of healthcare through innovative education, groundbreaking research, and community engagement. As we embark on this journey to redefine medical education, we are seeking passionate individuals who are eager to contribute to our mission.

We envision a medical education system where students and residents learn as part of a team in primary care, community-level settings and patient-centred environments. Our curriculum considers social, environmental and prevention contexts while seeking to advance reconciliation by embedding and equalizing Indigenous knowledge systems in our learning, research and practices. As we establish the School of Medicine in Surrey, B.C., we will foster our growing relationships with the local community, Fraser Health Authority, First Nations Health Authority, physicians and Indigenous partners who will help us meet the diverse health needs of the communities we serve. We seek to improve access to primary care throughout the province while resting on a solid foundation of high-quality, accredited education and world-class research efforts that keep us oriented toward measurable and socially accountable outcomes.

About the Role

The Multimedia Specialist plays a key role in shaping engaging, accessible, and innovative digital learning experiences across the School of Medicine. This position serves as a bridge between technology, creativity, and education by translating instructional and institutional goals into impactful multimedia, audiovisual, and digital content solutions. Working closely with faculty, curriculum developers, and the Medical Education Technology team, the role directly contributes to the School’s priorities of delivering high-quality medical education, fostering inclusive learning environments, and supporting culturally safe practices that incorporate Indigenous perspectives and ways of knowing. The successful candidate will be involved in exciting initiatives supporting the School’s continued growth, including the development of multimedia content for emerging curriculum and learning platforms, expansion of hybrid and digital learning experiences, enhancement of accessibility standards and practices, and implementation of innovative AV and multimedia solutions that support teaching, institutional events, and learner engagement across distributed learning environments.

The ideal candidate is a creative, collaborative, and technically skilled multimedia professional who can translate educational and communication goals into engaging and accessible learning experiences. They possess strong expertise in multimedia production, audiovisual technologies, and learning platforms, combined with excellent problem-solving and project coordination abilities. Success in this role requires adaptability, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Strong communication and relationship-building skills are essential, along with a service-oriented mindset and the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences. A commitment to accessibility, cultural safety, inclusion, and continuous learning is also critical.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in New Media, Multimedia Production, Graphic Design, Educational Technology, and four years of experience in multimedia production, content creation, video production, audiovisual (AV) support, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and related professional experience.

  • Multimedia Production & Content Development – Demonstrated experience creating and producing multimedia content across various formats including video, graphics, interactive media, and digital learning assets that support educational and institutional goals.
  • Audiovisual (AV) Technology & Event Support – Experience supporting live, in-person, hybrid, and virtual events, including troubleshooting and resolving technical issues in real time.
  • Learning Platforms & Accessibility Expertise – Experience working with learning management systems (e.g., Canvas, Moodle) and applying accessibility standards and best practices, including WCAG compliance, captioning, and accessible design principles.
  • Collaboration & Communication Skills – Strong ability to work effectively with faculty, subject matter experts, and diverse stakeholders while translating technical concepts into clear and practical solutions.
  • Problem Solving & Adaptability– Demonstrated ability to independently resolve complex technical challenges, balance competing priorities, and adapt to evolving technologies and changing needs.
