Civil Engineering Intern

Job Summary:

We at Actalent Services are a fast-growing engineering consulting group which expanded to Canada in 2014. A significant part of that growth has come out of our Western Canadian Operations focused on Infrastructure and Utilities projects. To support this growth, we have opened an Civil Engineering Co-op, with opportunity for a full-time position once graduated. The selected individual will be a part of our Utilities Division based out of New Westminster, BC. During your co-op work term, you will be part of a team delivering BC Hydro substation engineering projects, with a focus on structural design, and some basic civil design.

Co-op/Internship Duration: 5-6 months, concluding in Dec. 2026.

Key activities include liaising with project stakeholders, completing project designs and performing quality assurance functions.

This role required Drug and Alcohol screening as a pre-employment requirement.

This position will be Hybrid work model. Our New Westminster, BC office is located 1 minute from the New Westminster Station Skytrain. NOTE: there will be times when you may be asked to be in office 5 days a week.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Must be enrolled in a Civil Engineering program in a recognized post-secondary institution in Canada
• Current standing GPA of 75% or better.
• Completed a minimum of 2 years of your 4-year engineering program
• Willing to travel within BC up to 20% of the time
• Strong communication skills, highly motivated and results oriented
• A valid Class 5 driver’s license

Considered an Asset:

• Course work in structural engineering (steel and concrete design)
• Past co-op/work term within a Civil/Structural infrastructure/utility environment.
• Past field experience.
• Experience with CSI-SAP2000, RISA 3D, Mathcad, and AutoCAD.

Job Responsibilities:

• Interface and assist other team members, team leads and managers.
• Assist in a variety of project support activities including, organize and resize photos, project coordination and client support.
• Prepare structural details, conceptual designs, civil documentations and calculations.
• Conduct project site visits to obtain information on existing conditions. These will occur throughout BC and may require being out of town for a couple of days at a time.
• Conduct research and analysis related to Civil/Structural scope of substation engineering projects, including equipment specifications and industry standards.
• Support the preparation of presentations and project proposals for clients.
• Help maintain project schedules and track deliverables to ensure timely completion.
• Participate in team meetings and provide updates on project tasks and progress.
• Learn and apply company standards and best practices related to substation design and engineering.

This is a Contract position based out of New Westminster, BC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $29.00/hr.
