Clinical Team Leader -

Base Office: Abbotsford

Regular Full Time Position– Global

Salary- $90,.44 to $,.36 per annum (35 hrs per week)

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Clinical Team Leader reports to the Stó:lō Director of Operations and supervises a team of counsellors. The team will provide clinical services to support families connected to17 Stó:lō Sto:lo First Nations Communities who have experienced grief, loss, and trauma. The team also provides Sexual Abuse Intervention and Prevention services to Indigenous Children over a large geographical area. This position will supervise staff who will be in various positions throughout the communities from Yale to Kwantlen. Outreach services will be expected.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

The clinical team leader will combine their cultural knowledge, leadership abilities, and clinical and therapeutic skills, to create a strong team of skilled counsellors.

  • Clinical Supervision- the Clinical Team Leader is responsible to:
  • Demonstrate desired approach to client work through clinical supervision that is cultural, trauma informed, and strength based.
  • Supporting staff individually and as a team to develop knowledge and confidence that allows them to provide excellent culturally based, clinical services to the children, families, and communities they serve.
  • Support staff to grow in their understanding and ability to provide one on one, and group services in a manner that honors and respects the cultural awareness/practices of the people they are serving.
  • Support staff to assess clients’ strengths, gifts, and challenges, and collaborate with them to identify a path to healing.
  • Support staff to continuously learn and grow in their understanding and practice of traditional healing methods, and ensure they are using them appropriately with each individual client and family.
  • Familiar with evidence informed practices such as: Solution Focused Brief Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing, family systems, and understands how this knowledge can support client’s journey towards health and healing.
  • Leadership and Management- the Clinical Team Leader is responsible for:
  • Recruitment, selection, training, performance planning and review.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring and professional development opportunities.
  • Develops clear vision for the team through collaborative strategic planning and goal setting that is in line with the agency’s direction.
  • Represent the agency in the community when requested to facilitate collaborative relationships and develop shared service delivery goals.
  • Develop and maintain linkage with external clinical services to ensure that indigenous children and families are aware and can access a full range of clinical support that is culturally safe.

  • Ensuring service delivery adheres to professional standards recognized by Accreditation, Quality Assurance, and applicable professional disciplines.
  • Provide direct clinical and administrative supervision and complete documentation on supervision sessions and performance reviews with assigned staff.
  • Respond to complaints by clients or staff in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
  • Promptly addresses issues that impact cooperation, support, morale, and service delivery.
  • Provide the Director with operational information, and community needs.
  • Participate as a member of a team of supervisors and contribute to strategic planning and other agency planning activities.
  • Participate in relevant research activities and program evaluation.
  • Contribute to community education through presentations workshops and groups.
  • Other duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Excellent oral and written communication, including the ability to write concise reports.
  • Ability to form trusting, respectful and effective relationships with children, Indigenous communities, caregivers, parents, and other FVACFSS employees.
  • Ability to demonstrate a solution-focused and motivational interviewing approach when working with communities, children, and families.
  • Excellent clinical skills in creating safe space for staff, families, and individuals to discuss difficult history and situations.
  • Excellent dispute resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance competing priorities, and work under pressure.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
  • Demonstrates security awareness consistent with agency policy when witnessing family’s stories, clinically supervising staff, dealing with confidential documents, offices safety, and personal safety.
  • Completes monthly output reports in a timely manner to meet both statistical and case management responsibilities as outlined by the Director of Operations and Executive Leadership team.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE:

  • A master’s degree in social work, Educational Counselling, Child and Youth Care or Social Service Equivalent. A combination of education, significant clinical experience, a strong background in using cultural traditions, and practices, and a demonstrated ability to develop respectable relationships with indigenous communities will also be considered.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Knowledge and appreciation of Indigenous culture and historical impacts affecting the development of individuals and communities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of both Western based and traditional methods of intervention, assessment, counselling, and healing to family and individual development and well-being.
  • Experience in use of cultural practices to promote health and wellness in a therapeutic relationship.
  • Experience leading and supervising staff.
  • Understanding and practices the strengthening of family systems from an Indigenous perspective, inclusive of extended family and community.
  • Knowledge and understanding of historic and current context of child protection in Indigenous communities.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid class 5 BC drivers’ licence with no restrictions or equivalent.
  • Valid BC Driver’s License; reliable transportation with adequate vehicle insurance.
  • Successful Criminal Records Check required.
