Are you someone who enjoys working at the intersection of data, systems, and financial or operational processes? We are looking for candidates who have experience building or leading data and analytics solutions in finance, accounting, risk, or similarly complex environments, and who can turn business or control needs into practical, scalable data solutions and insights. You bring a background in accounting, finance, data, or a mix of these.

About the role

In this role, you will help shape how financial data is structured, governed, and turned into insights across Accounting Operations. Reporting to the Director, Accounting Operations, you will play a key role in strengthening the quality, accessibility, and reliability of data supporting the Bank of Canada, its Pension Trust Funds, the Exchange Fund Account, and the Government of Canada’s debt.

Your work will help improve internal controls, enhance data quality, and support teams in making clear, informed decisions in a complex and evolving data environment.

What you will do

Enable access to reliable accounting data

  • Lead the design and effectiveness of the Accounting Operations data governance framework (documentation, definitions, data quality).
  • Review and approve accounting data requirements for system changes, ensuring alignment with accounting standards, policies, and controls.
  • Partner with data and technology teams to build data infrastructure that integrates financial and operational systems.

Safeguard data integrity

  • Oversee and prioritize high-impact accounting data issues, including escalation as needed.
  • Review third-party audit reports (e.g., SOC) to identify risks to data flows and escalate material concerns.

Lead the development of analytics capabilities

  • Design and deliver analytics solutions (models, dashboards, reporting) that strengthen controls and support decision-making.
  • Lead testing and validation to ensure quality and reliability of solutions.
  • Build analytics capability across the team through coaching and hands-on support.

Collaborate and influence

  • Partner with senior leaders to align data and analytics initiatives with priorities.
  • Build strong relationships across teams.
  • Contribute accounting expertise in cross-functional forums and governance committees.

What you need to succeed

  • A proactive, strategic mindset, comfortable exercising judgment and influence in complex, non routine situations.
  • Strong expertise in working with financial or operational data, including the ability to translate business and control requirements into effective data and analytics solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and delivering analytics (e.g., datasets, models, dashboards, reporting tools) that support decision-making and strengthen controls
  • Strong understanding of data quality, governance, and integrity, with a focus on reliability and trust in data
  • Clear, concise communication skills, able to engage both technical and non technical audiences.
  • A collaborative, relationship driven approach, with the ability to influence without formal authority.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and delivering analytics (e.g., datasets, models, dashboards, reporting tools) that support decision-making and strengthen controls

Nice to have

Experience working with:

  • Accounting operations in a financial institution, crown corporation, or similarly complex environment.
  • Enterprise systems and data environments (e.g., SAP, data warehouses/lakehouses, portfolio or financial market systems).
  • Financial instruments and their accounting, valuation, and control considerations.
  • CPA designation

Your education and experience

You have a university degree in a relevant field (e.g., accounting, finance, data, or a related discipline) and a minimum of five years of experience in accounting, finance, data analytics, or financial operations, including exposure to controls, reporting, or complex data environments.

Innovative Mindset

We value candidates who demonstrate adaptability, curiosity, and a willingness to learn new technologies, including AI and digital tools. We seek individuals who can think critically about data, question existing processes, and find ways to simplify our work while embracing change and new ways of doing things.
