POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Department of Chemistry in the Faculty of Arts & Science at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time, three-year contractually limited term appointment (CLTA), teaching stream position in the area of Analytical Chemistry. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream with an anticipated start date of January 1, 2027.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must have earned a PhD degree in Chemistry or a related area by the time of appointment, or shortly thereafter, with a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching in Analytical Chemistry. We seek candidates whose teaching interests complement and enhance our existing departmental strengths (www.chemistry.utoronto.ca).

Candidates must have demonstrated teaching excellence and have teaching experience in a degree granting program at the undergraduate program level. This experience may include lecture preparation and delivery, curriculum development activities, and development of online material/lectures. Experience in coordinating laboratories and supervising teaching assistants at the university level would be an asset. Candidates must possess a demonstrated commitment to novel and impactful pedagogical methods, and a demonstrated interest in teaching-related scholarly activities.

Evidence of excellence in teaching and a commitment to excellent pedagogical inquiry can be demonstrated through teaching accomplishments, grants, awards and accolades, presentations at significant conferences, the teaching dossier submitted as part of the application (with required materials outlined below) as well as strong letters of reference. The teaching dossier includes a strong teaching statement, sample course materials, teaching evaluations, or other evidence of superior performance in teaching-related activities, which can include superior performance as a teaching assistant or course instructor, experience leading successful workshops or seminars, student mentorship, or excellent conference presentations or posters.

Candidates are also expected to show evidence of a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and the promotion of a respectful and collegial learning and working environment demonstrated through the application materials.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will be assigned a teaching and service load. The successful candidate will be expected to teach and coordinate analytical chemistry courses at the undergraduate levels in the Department of Chemistry including lecture and laboratory components of these courses where required. The successful candidate will be expected to conduct course and curriculum development in the courses they teach, including renewal of lecture and laboratory materials.

HIRING SALARY RANGE

The salary range is $130,000 to $160,000 CAD per annum, depending on experience. Negotiations beyond this salary range will be considered for exceptionally qualified candidates.
