The successful candidate
will have the following qualifications: Master's degree in counselling; recent successful experience as a school counsellor at the secondary level; demonstrated familiarity with the BC Graduation Program knowledge and understanding of the cultural values, traditions, and language of the Kwak'wala speaking peoples – Indigenous ancestry preferred;the ability to work closely with staff in a team oriented approach to teaching and learning;strong formative assessment practices; knowledge and experience working with students with exceptionalities; training and experience in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, Threat Assessment, Crisis Response and Suicide Risk Assessment; successful experience liaising with parents, school-based teams, external agencies, and community- based professionals and coordinating SEL interventions using a multi-agency approach; strong organizational, interpersonal, communication and collaborative skills; experience with RTI (Response to Intervention) systems; strong interest in innovation and inquiry; a desire to work in a flexible alternative learning environment; and ability to embed local Indigenous culture and ways of knowing into teaching practices. The starting annual salary for a full-time School Teacher position ranges from $66,299 to $116,016, with placement in the range based on length of service and qualifications in accordance with the collective agreement.
