The salary for the position is $108,147 to $155,461. Interior Health establishes salaries within the minimum and maximum of the salary range based on consideration of the qualifications, experience of the applicant, and an internal equity review of the salaries of other employees

How will you make an impact?

The Manager, People Safety and Prevention – North/South (Manager) provides strategic and operational leadership for Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) services across assigned areas, programs, and sites. This role leads workplace safety and prevention initiatives in partnership with frontline leaders, driving targeted improvements that address high risk activities, recurring issues, and opportunities to strengthen a proactive safety culture.

The Manager supports sites in reducing risk by identifying and closing safety gaps, promoting consistent and accountable safety practices, and advancing a forward looking approach to hazard prevention. Through collaboration with partners, effective hazard communication, delivery of training and education, and oversight of thorough incident investigations and corrective actions, the Manager helps move the organization beyond basic compliance toward sustained safety excellence. Working closely with leaders, the Manager advances Interior Health’s OHS program, enhances safety management systems, and improves outcomes across all areas of responsibility.

In addition, the Manager provides leadership to a team of WHS professionals, fostering a supportive, inclusive, and high performance environment. This includes empowering team members to make informed decisions, develop their skills, and confidently take on new challenges while contributing to the overall success of the WHS portfolio.

What will you work on?

• Oversees site and program safety compliance activities, including regulatory inspections, internal audits, and incident investigations.

• Collaborates closely with site and program leadership to embed safety practices into daily operations, project planning, and decision making.

• Monitors compliance with OHS legislation, collective agreements, ministry directives, accreditation standards, and organizational policies, supporting audits, inspections, and corrective action follow up.

• Analyzes incident trends and safety performance metrics, identifying emerging risks and recommending proactive mitigation strategies.

• Responsible for evaluation of site safety practices and compliance, identifying gaps and guiding leaders toward effective, preventative solutions.

• Serves as the primary liaison with regulatory bodies and external partners regarding inspections, reporting requirements, and compliance matters.

• Oversees and maintains comprehensive safety documentation, including departmental records, data reports, and supporting information.

• Builds and sustains strong working relationships with internal and external partners to support collaborative safety initiatives.

• Leads strategic initiatives related to WHS programs, services, and continuous improvement efforts.

• Responsible for overseeing the delivery and facilitation of safety training and education.

• Acts as a trusted strategic advisor to organizational leaders, providing expert guidance on occupational health and safety to strengthen compliance, risk management, and operational decision making.

• Manages portfolio operations, including budgeting, staffing, recruitment, employee development, performance management, and disciplinary actions when required.

• In alignment with IH’s Occupational Health & Safety Program, maintain a healthy and safe work environment through complying with and implementing applicable Occupational Health and Safety Regulation, responding to requests from WSBC, identifying hazards and communicating risks, ensuring compliance with employee training, conducting effective incident investigations and implementing required corrective actions.
