About the Team

Corporate Operations at the BCLDB includes our Corporate Loss Prevention and Real Estate departments. The Corporate Loss Prevention department ensures the security of all BCLDB assets through physical security management as well as an investigative team.

Under the direction of the Manager Investigations, the Building Security Officer ensures compliance with all policies and procedures related to security and safety at the Richmond Distribution Centre, government liquor stores and distribution centres. This role provides security advice to store managers and employees throughout the province, operates a central alarm monitoring system which provides support to Branch facilities throughout the province, and provides security support and the safe guarding of all Branch assets, employees, contractors, customers and business partners.

As a Building Security Officer, you will:

• Provide a superior level of customer service to business partners and the public.
• Monitor systems and alarms, investigates possible breaches of security, emergencies and notifies appropriate authorities and key holders.
• Assess emergency calls (Retail Management System (RMS), power failures, alarms, theft, etc.) from stores and advises on appropriate course of action as outlined in the Building Security Officer Policy.
• Perform patrols of the Distribution Centre to observe and correct breaches of security, fire or safety hazards.
• Operate Closed Circuit Television CCTV systems, monitoring of GPS tracking systems, card access systems, intercoms, store work alone system, Corporate Loss Prevention Response Center.
• Enforce the appropriate provisions of the Criminal Code of Canada, Liquor Distribution Act, Liquor Control and Licensing Act and Liquor Distribution policy as they pertain to offences/breaches committed in the Richmond Distribution Centre.
• Perform administrative duties such as:
  • Prepare and maintain activity and incident reports.
  • Repair locks as required or supervise locksmith.
  • Issue drop boxes and maintain records of issuance and return, fill armoured car cash bag requests.
  • Answer reception calls after-hours and on weekends.
  • Escort visitors throughout the buildings as required.
  • May respond to store emergencies within the GVRD.
• Other duties as operationally required.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

• Successful completion of a secondary (high) school diploma or equivalent certification, and a minimum of one (1) year of recent, related experience* in security or law enforcement.

*Recent, related experience must be within the last five (5) years.

Preference may be given to those candidates with any of the following:

• Experience in a customer service environment.

Special Requirements and Working conditions:

• Successful completion of a criminal record check.
• Ability to work without supervision.
• Ability to travel overnight within the Province of British Columbia.
• Candidates must be able to work Monday to Friday, in a multi-shift pattern. Shift work is scheduled days, afternoons evenings including some weekends and statutory holidays. Afternoon/evening shifts receive shift premiums.
• Uniforms are supplied.
• Physically able to manually open and close by pushing/pulling heavy gates (around 300 lbs. in a roller) in the event of a power failure.
• Perform internal and external foot patrols of the building and its premises on an hourly rotational basis.

Compensation:

Rate of pay starting at $29.9434 per hour plus 97 cents per working hour in lieu of health and welfare benefits, up to a maximum of $67.90 per biweekly pay period plus 6% of regular earnings in lieu of vacation leave.
