The Nova Scotia Museum consisting of 28 museum sites, is the most decentralized museum in Canada. It is also one of the oldest provincial museums in the country. The Nova Scotia Museum is responsible for the provincial collection of over one million artifacts and specimens housed at museum sites and storage facilities across the province.

About Our Opportunity

The Museum of Industry is seeking an individual to be part of our Visitor Experience team (VET) who exemplifies service excellence and demonstrates strong communication skills while welcoming and assisting visitors from diverse backgrounds, providing accurate and timely information to them in a dynamic work environment.

In this position, you will engage with visitors of all ages to inform about the Museum's collections and Nova Scotia's industrial history through interactive, well-researched programs and activities. You will also act as the first point of contact with the public, providing admissions and reception services as they are welcomed to the museum.

This position reports to the Curator of Education and Public Programs at the Museum of Industry in Stellarton.

Primary Accountabilities

  • Provide a consistently high level of interpretive programming, including tours and school programs, in Museum galleries and temporary exhibitions.
  • Maintain and operate Point of Sale (POS) systems for admissions, pass sales, and retail purchases.
  • Ensure special offers, discounts and cash handling procedures are completed in adherence with policies and procedures.
  • Orient visitors with the site and inform them of programming, events, and activities available.
  • Offer excellent customer service in a busy, fast-paced environment.

Qualifications and Experience

As the ideal candidate, you posses Grade 12 plus three years related experience. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be acceptable.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to explain things in a clear and engaging way are required. This includes initiating conversations with visitors, being comfortable speaking in front of groups and providing a high standard of visitor service.

Adaptability and good time management skills are required. Computer proficiency (word processing, email, internet, POS) is required. You have basic research skills and the ability to recall a large volume of detailed historical information.

Must be self-motivated, able to work with limited supervision, and able to work as part of a team. Previous experience working in a classroom, museum, heritage site, gallery, tourism and hospitality site, or other educational programming site is required.

Assets for this role:

  • Training or certification in a related field (e.g. Tourism, Hospitality, History, Indigenous Studies, Museum Studies)
  • Previous cash handling experience
  • Certification in first aid and WHMIS
  • Ability to speak French or additional languages.

Working Conditions


Must be willing and able to work flexible hours including weekends, evenings and holidays. Successful candidates must also successfully complete appropriate vulnerable background checks.

This is a part-time casual position. Successful candidates must be willing to work flexible hours, including weekend and holiday shifts. There is no guaranteed number of work hours per week. This is a term position with an anticipated end date of September 5, 2026.

Pay Grade: CL 13

Salary Range: $1,647.65 - $1,793.47 Bi-Weekly
