About the opportunity

The School of Nursing in Dalhousie’s Faculty of Health invites applications from qualified candidates for a full-time, 3-year limited term faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, specializing in Medical-Surgical Nursing.

Dalhousie University is comprised of 6,000 faculty and staff amongst its 13 faculties. Current enrollment is 21,000 graduate and undergraduate students. As part of Canada’s U15 research-intensive group, Dalhousie University is an influential driver of the region’s intellectual, social, and economic development. It is the largest university in Atlantic Canada and is located on the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq in the heart of Halifax (Kjipuktuk), a scenic coastal city and capital of Nova Scotia which is home to 13 Mi’kmaq First Nations, a deeply rooted African Nova Scotia community, an increasingly diverse population which also includes a vibrant workforce of people living with (dis)Abilities.

The Faculty of Health’s faculty, staff and students are committed to improving the well-being of individuals, families, communities and populations through diverse health programming, collaborative research, and strong community partnerships. The Faculty of Health is one of the largest faculties at Dalhousie, comprised of eight schools, one college and one program, more than 200 faculty members, 80 staff members, and over 3,000 students. With the most programmatically diverse health faculty in Canada, our students are exposed to a broad range of health topics and learning experiences.

The School of Nursing’s Strategic Plan, which aligns with that of the Faculty of Health and Dalhousie University, guides the realization of our vision of transforming healthcare through nursing education, research, and scholarship. Our values are to strive for excellence; embed equity and inclusion in all that we do; embrace broad perspectives of health; care for our students, staff, and faculty; collaborate with respect and reciprocity; and commit to viable growth.

The successful candidate will be required to teach undergraduate and/or graduate students as well as mentor/advise graduate students. The teaching assignments will include teaching in Medical-Surgical Nursing; as well as courses to reflect the expertise of the successful candidate within the needs of the School. Courses will be taught by means of interprofessional education; distance, online and context-based learning; and/or clinical simulation learning.

Applicants must hold a minimum of a Baccalaureate degree in Nursing; a Master’s degree in Nursing and/or another health discipline; PhD prepared an asset, in Nursing and/or another health discipline. All applicants must have demonstrated a commitment to developing excellence in their teaching and practice. A combination of four to five years’ clinical and teaching experience in Medical-Surgical Nursing is required. Advanced experience in pharmacology and Nurse Practitioner is preferred. Applicants must be eligible for registration with the Nova Scotia College of Nursing.

The candidate is expected to become an active and engaged member of the School, Faculty and University. Activities at local, national and international levels are expected to promote continuous improvement in teaching and learning at Dalhousie. There is no expectation of a research workload associated with this position.

Applications from interested individuals will be considered for a FTE limited term teaching appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. This position is available to start during Summer 2026, with the incumbent in place for the Fall 2026 semester.

Applicants should include a cover letter stating qualifications and experience, community engagement and /or lived experience in relation to equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility (EDIA); a current Curriculum Vitae; a statement of teaching experience and interests.
