Job description

Your Opportunity at ARC’TERYX:

As the Lab and Workshop Technical Lead on our Advanced Concepts team, you lead the operation, evolution, and strategic development of our technical, scientific, and engineering facilities, including our Workshop, Mountain Athlete Lab, and Materials Lab. Partnering closely with Advanced Concepts and Product Creation teams, you enable rapid prototyping, testing, and experimentation to solve complex performance challenges for mountain athletes. This is a highly hands-on role that combines technical leadership, facility management, and direct project support across fabrication, 3D printing, and testing workflows.

This role is based in our North Vancouver office and is expected to be performed on-site.

Meet Your Future Team:

The Advanced Concepts team drives breakthrough innovation in snow, trail and climb for the mountain athlete everywhere. Fueled by curiosity, we take a holistic approach to identifying future needs and tangible solutions across advanced materials, products, technologies, and experiences. We are a team of builders, problem solvers and outdoor enthusiasts. Our in-house end-to-end capabilities in research, engineering, design, development, digital and validation allow us to innovate head-to-toe solutions that bring the coast mountain experience to the world. Our unique methodology, mindset of sustainability and fanatic passion for product are at the heart of what we do.

If you were the Lab and Workshop Technical Lead now, here are some of the core activities you would be doing:

  • Providing technical leadership for the operation of the Mountain Athlete Lab, Materials Lab, and Workshop, including management of equipment, facilities, and workflows
  • Ensuring our teams have the tools, environments, and capabilities needed to deliver breakthrough products
  • Partnering with the Senior Director, Research and Engineering, and Advanced Concepts leadership to define strategy and deliver execution for creation and testing environments
  • Managing lab and workshop equipment by coordinating selection, procurement, installation, training, calibration, and maintenance
  • Supporting Advanced Concepts projects through fabrication, rapid prototyping, machine operation, and test setup to enable high-performance solutions for mountain athletes
  • Maintaining organized, efficient, and collaborative lab and workshop spaces, with a forward-thinking approach to space utilization
  • Managing laboratory scheduling and resource allocation to support project priorities
  • Maintaining equipment logs, including calibration schedules and service records
  • Championing creation and testing capabilities by leading workshops, coordinating equipment training, and onboarding new users
  • Supporting the team in developing and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures and training documentation
  • Ensuring compliance with safety standards and applicable regulatory requirements
  • Troubleshooting equipment and testing challenges, engaging external partners as needed
  • Building and managing relationships with external technical experts to support design and development needs
  • Traveling to local and international facilities as required
  • Partnering with Advanced Concepts leadership to support the development of intellectual property related to equipment, testing, and manufacturing
  • Supporting the compilation of project scope, activities, and expenditures for submission to funding programs (, SR&ED, IRAP, NRC, MITACS)
  • Maintaining current knowledge of industry technologies, equipment, and best practices through ongoing learning and hands-on experience

Here are some of the things you could be working on in the future:

  • Collaborating with Advanced Concepts team members to evolve how we test products in both mountain and lab environments, including enabling data capture in harsh conditions and developing representative lab environments
  • Operating and continuously improving lab and workshop workflows, scheduling, and maintenance systems
  • Purchasing, installing, and implementing new testing and prototyping equipment.
  • Building new capabilities for the fabrication and testing of novel apparel and equipment concepts
  • Maintaining high-performance, well-equipped facilities that enable researchers, designers, and engineers to operate at their best

Are you our next Lab and Workshop Technical Lead?

  • You have a bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics) or a relevant science discipline, with 5+ years of hands-on experience in a lab or workshop environment, leading technical workflows or environments
  • You have a strong understanding of how a sports science or testing lab operates and experience working with scientists and engineers
  • You have familiarity with instrumentation and troubleshooting common athlete science and machine shop equipment
  • You have strong hands-on experience with fabrication tools and processes, including CNC milling, 3D printing, and mechanical shop equipment
  • You have experience setting up or supporting prototyping and production facilities
  • You have advanced knowledge of research and engineering software, including CAD, machine operation, and data management tools
  • You take a hands-on approach to your work and are motivated to teach, support, and enable others
  • You are a strong problem solver who identifies root causes and develops practical, effective solutions
  • You are highly adaptable and effective in environments with ambiguity and evolving priorities
  • You are able to prioritize effectively while continuously improving processes and systems
  • You are a creative and adaptable thinker who works well with evolving ideas and concepts
  • You are comfortable balancing autonomy with collaboration
  • You demonstrate sound judgment and consistently pursue the best solutions, even when they are not the easiest path

Compensation:
