Senior Civil Estimator

Overview

MatchBox Consulting Group is currently seeking a Senior Civil Estimator on behalf of our client, a well-established and growing civil construction contractor in the Lower Mainland.

Our client has an immediate need for experienced estimators and is looking for individuals who are committed to a long-term estimating career path. This opportunity is best suited for professionals who enjoy estimating and pre-construction.

Reporting to the Vice President of Construction, the Senior Civil Estimator will play a key role in the preparation, coordination, and submission of competitive bids for major civil infrastructure projects including earthworks, roadbuilding, excavation and shoring, and underground utilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Review tender documents, specifications, drawings, and attend pre-bid meetings to determine project scope and estimating requirements.
• Prepare detailed quantity take-offs and material calculations.
• Conduct productivity analyses and cost assessments for various scopes of work.
• Lead and coordinate estimating teams during bid preparation.
• Evaluate and select vendors and subcontractors while assessing overall project cost effectiveness.
• Consult with clients, suppliers, subcontractors, and stakeholders to develop accurate estimates.
• Lead prequalification submissions and proposal-based tender opportunities.
• Prepare bid packages and coordinate estimate close-out and submission activities.
• Analyze and compare subcontractor and supplier quotations to determine best value.
• Maintain accurate estimating records and backup documentation.
• Participate in post-bid reviews and analyses.
• Lead pre-construction handover meetings with project delivery teams following project award.
• Support project teams with change orders, extra work pricing, and estimate revisions resulting from design changes.
• Collaborate closely with project managers, superintendents, equipment managers, and executive leadership throughout the project lifecycle.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years of estimating experience within civil construction.
• Proven experience estimating infrastructure projects including:
  • Earthworks
  • Roadbuilding
  • Excavation and shoring
  • Underground utilities
  • Municipal and transportation infrastructure projects
• Strong understanding of construction methodologies, productivity factors, and cost analysis.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, and relationship management abilities.
• Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to guide estimating teams and coordinate multiple stakeholders.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical capabilities.
• Ability to establish credibility with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and internal teams.
• Knowledge of unionized labour environments is considered an asset.
• Valid Driver's License required.

Education

• Post-secondary education in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline is preferred.
