Job Description

The Sanitation Manager oversees all cleaning and sanitization activities for equipment, surfaces, utensils, and the plant environment, working both hands-on and in a leadership capacity to guide the sanitation team. This role ensures strict adherence to sanitation programs, policies, and procedures, and drives continuous improvement through risk-based gap analysis and industry best practices. The Sanitation Manager plans, organizes, and monitors sanitation operations, tracks key sanitation metrics, and collaborates closely with plant staff and external technical partners to maintain high standards of food safety and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the cleaning and sanitization of equipment, surfaces, utensils, and the plant environment to ensure a safe and compliant operation.
• Work hands-on alongside sanitation employees to provide day-to-day direction, motivation, and technical support.
• Ensure full adherence to sanitation program policies, procedures, and cleaning regimes across the plant.
• Provide guidance based on risk-based gap analysis and industry best practices to continuously improve the cleaning and sanitation program.
• Develop and implement strategies to achieve sanitation excellence across the organization.
• Plan sanitation requirements and activities by setting priorities, scheduling tasks, assigning work, and communicating regularly with sanitation staff and key stakeholders.
• Track and trend critical sanitation metrics, including allergen swabs, ATP swabs, pre-operational deficiencies, and cleaning completion compliance, to measure performance and drive improvements.

Essential Skills

• 5–7 years of supervisory experience in sanitation within a food processing facility.
• Strong knowledge of food safety principles and practices in a food manufacturing environment.
• Knowledge of HACCP principles and their application in sanitation programs.
• Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and their practical implementation.
• Knowledge of WHMIS and safe handling of chemicals used in cleaning and sanitizing and First Aid Basics

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience managing GMP compliance within a food manufacturing or processing environment.
• Experience coordinating with production and janitorial teams to align sanitation activities with operational needs.
• Ability to interpret and apply industry best practices to sanitation programs.
• Strong organizational skills to manage priorities, schedules, and multiple tasks in a dynamic plant environment.
• Ability to analyze sanitation metrics, identify trends, and implement data-driven improvements.
• Comfort working closely with chemical suppliers and technical experts to optimize cleaning processes and resolve issues.
• Strong interpersonal skills to motivate and support a team of 20–30 employees.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $87000.00 - $92000.00/yr.
