Three (3) year Term Assignment

Position available September 1, 2026 to August 31, 2029

(Contract rated under the Provincial Schools Authority)

The Ministry of Education has an exciting opportunity available at the W. Ross Macdonald School for the Blind, for an experienced and innovative 0.5 Head of Organizational Unit member. The 0.5 Head of Organizational Unit is a teacher who holds a position of responsibility in accordance with Regulation 298 and whose primary job is to assist the Principal/Vice-Principal in the co-ordination and supervision of a program or unit of study or to act as a consultant for teachers in improving the methods of instructions and maintaining proper standards of the subjects or program he/she has been appointed to co-ordinate.

The 0.5 Head of Organizational Unit – Deafblind Resource Services plays an integral role supporting teachers who are delivering and consulting on education programs to district school boards and families with deafblind children. Effective management skills are required to successfully arrange and coordinate workshops and conferences on various topics relating to deafblindness; acting as a liaison providing information and training to families/district school boards community service workers, board personnel and other professionals relating to children with deafblindness; develop caseload proposals; mentor and assist all resource staff; co-ordinate intake of new referrals; co-ordinate/provide functional assessments for children with potential deafblindness; assist in the preparation of individual educational programs of instruction for students with deafblindness.

This position is a three (3) year term appointment effective September 1, 2026 to August 31, 2029.

What we are looking for:

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid Certificate of Registration from the Ontario College of Teachers;
  • Specialist Certificate as Teacher of the Deafblind.

ABILITIES:

  • Experience in the education of deafblind students;
  • Ability to apply and assist teachers with application of appropriate Ministry, Provincial and school policies and procedures;
  • Ability to facilitate engagement between families and district school boards;
  • Thorough understanding of Individual Education plans;
  • Ability to support Educators in the development of Individual Education Plans programming using smart goals;
  • Ability to provide effective leadership through strong problem-solving, analytical skills, high emotional intelligence;
  • Thorough understanding of formative and summative assessment strategies;
  • Ability to utilize both standardized and non-standardized assessment tools;
  • Knowledge of early childhood development;
  • Excellent understanding of parent engagement;
  • Excellent understanding of developmental milestones to support families;
  • Understanding of early years development in literacy and mathematics;
  • Excellent understanding of assistive technology and devices for multi-needs students who are pre-schoolers and school aged children;
  • Ability to work with a wide range of multi-needs students;
  • Ability/experience to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team;
  • Demonstrated conflict resolution and collaborative practices with community partners;
  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively throughout the province based on assigned caseload.

LOCATION: Brantford, Ontario with some overnight travel throughout Ontario.

AREA OF SEARCH: Restricted to teachers currently employed by the Provincial Schools Authority.
