Job Title: Precision TIG Welder
Job Description
This role focuses on high-precision, cosmetic GTAW/TIG welding of thin-wall stainless steel, aluminum, and carbon steel tubing and components used in geotechnical and structural monitoring equipment. You will perform repetitive bench-style welding using fixtures, jigs, and rotating weld setups to produce customer-facing parts with tight tolerances and consistently clean weld appearance. In addition to precision welding, you will support light fabrication, sheet metal work, and general shop tasks in a clean, organized machine shop environment with long-term growth potential.
Responsibilities
- Perform high-quality GTAW/TIG welding on thin-wall stainless steel, aluminum, and carbon steel tubing and components for precision instrumentation assemblies.
- Produce clean, cosmetic welds on customer-facing parts where welds are not ground down, ensuring excellent appearance and consistency.
- Work primarily on thin-wall tubing, precision instrumentation components, sensor housings, and cylindrical assemblies using bench-style setups.
- Use fixtures, jigs, and rotating weld setups to maintain repeatable, high-precision weld quality in a production environment.
- Read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings to understand weld requirements, tolerances, and assembly specifications.
- Maintain strong hand control and steady welding technique to meet tight tolerance requirements on precision workpieces.
- Perform light fabrication and sheet metal tasks such as bending, minor fabrication, and fitting as needed to support production.
- Support occasional larger rough fabrication jobs while maintaining a focus on precision and quality.
- Contribute to repetitive production work while balancing quality, throughput, and adherence to engineering standards.
- Collaborate with a small, quality-focused team and an experienced welder to support proprietary and internal manufacturing processes.
- Follow all safety procedures, use required PPE, and support a safety-first culture in the machine shop.
- Keep the work area clean, organized, and compliant with shop standards to support efficient and accurate production.
Essential Skills
- 10+ years of TIG/GTAW welding experience, with strong focus on precision and cosmetic TIG welding.
- Valid Red Seal Welding Certification or BC Provincial Welding Certification.
- Proven experience welding thin-wall stainless steel tubing and components, producing clean, customer-facing welds without grinding or cover-up.
- Experience welding aluminum and carbon steel with strong hand control and a steady welding technique suited to precision work.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings for precision assemblies.
- Experience working with fixtures, jigs, and rotating weld setups in repetitive production environments.
- Back check in production or manufacturing settings, ideally involving precision components.
- High level of attention to detail and commitment to consistent weld quality.
- Positive attitude, reliability, and a professional, safety-conscious approach to work.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in instrumentation or sensor manufacturing environments.
- Back check in precision enclosure or stainless steel fabrication.
- Experience in machinery manufacturing environments.
- Light fabrication and sheet metal experience, including bending, minor fabrication, and fitting.
- Experience building or modifying jigs and fixtures to improve consistency and efficiency.
- Familiarity with production welding environments where quality and throughput must be balanced.
- Experience with cosmetic stainless finishing and chemical cleaning processes.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort working in a precision machine shop.
- Ability to work effectively in a quiet, focused environment with minimal supervision.
Why Work Here?
You will join a stable, growing business that invests in high-quality, precision manufacturing and values the contributions of skilled tradespeople. The company offers benefits and vacation during the contract period, along with the potential to transition into a long-term permanent role under global ownership.
