Job Summary & Key Responsibilities
The part-time academic will be responsible for teaching: HPRO/KINE/LEIS 5503 – Intermediate Statistics for Health Sciences (X-listed LEIS/KINE/HPRO 5503).The course will be offered in the Winter Term, from January 1st, 2027- April 30th, 2027. NOTE: This is an in-person course and includes lecture and tutorials.
This course provides graduate students with a working knowledge of statistical issues and methods commonly used by researchers in the Health Professions. The statistical software package SPSS is introduced and used by students throughout the course. Topics covered include a review of probability and one and two sample inferences for means and proportions. This is followed by some common experimental designs, contingency tables and odds ratios. Final topics are correlation and linear regression (simple and multiple), analysis of variance, analysis of covariance, and logistic regression. A term data analysis project is required in which students make use of both statistical methods learned in class and the SPSS software package.
The part-time academic will be responsible for all aspects of teaching and administering the course, including preparing and delivering lectures and preparation and grading of assignments. The course will be taught using Brightspace (LMS- learning management system) and in-person on the Halifax Campus for the winter term . In addition, the part-time academic should expect to be engaged in course preparation in advance of the term. The part-time academic may consider offering one to two office hours outside of class time per week.
Qualifications/Requirements of Position
Graduate degree in Kinesiology, Health Promotion or Recreation and Leisure Studies with demonstrated teaching ability preferred.
