This is a senior-level, remote-friendly opportunity based out of Vancouver, BC, offering the chance to shape meaningful academic and applied economic work.

About the Role

As our Experienced Economics Research Mentor, you will serve as a trusted advisor and collaborator, helping researchers develop, refine, and publish high-quality economics research. You will bring deep subject matter expertise, strong academic writing skills, and a thorough understanding of the economics publishing landscape to support the end-to-end research process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Guide researchers through the full lifecycle of economics research, from topic selection and literature review to data analysis, manuscript writing, and journal submission.
  • Review and provide substantive feedback on research drafts, ensuring academic rigor, clarity, logical structure, and alignment with publication standards.
  • Collaborate with researchers to develop strong research questions, hypotheses, and methodological frameworks appropriate to their area of economics.
  • Advise on the selection of appropriate academic journals and publication venues, and assist in tailoring manuscripts to meet specific submission guidelines.
  • Mentor researchers on best practices for data sourcing, econometric analysis, and the interpretation of quantitative and qualitative findings.
  • Support the revision and resubmission process, including responding to peer reviewer feedback in a professional and constructive manner.
  • Identify gaps in research arguments and recommend strategies to strengthen the academic contribution and originality of the work.
  • Stay current with trends, emerging topics, and developments in economics literature to provide informed, up-to-date mentorship.

Required Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in Economics, Applied Economics, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in academic or applied economics research, with a track record of published work in peer-reviewed journals or reputable publications.
  • Strong command of academic writing conventions, citation standards (APA, Chicago, etc.), and scholarly communication.
  • Proven ability to mentor, coach, or tutor researchers at various stages of their academic or professional development.
  • Familiarity with the economics journal submission and peer review process.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with researchers across diverse subfields of economics, such as macroeconomics, microeconomics, behavioral economics, development economics, or public policy.
  • Prior experience in an academic, research institute, think tank, or consulting environment.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple mentoring relationships simultaneously.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to provide clear, actionable, and encouraging feedback.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency with statistical and econometric software such as Stata, R, Python, or SPSS.
  • Experience with academic research databases including JSTOR, EconLit, SSRN, or Google Scholar.
  • Familiarity with reference management tools such as Zotero, Mendeley, or EndNote.
  • Competence with document collaboration tools (e.g., Google Docs, Microsoft Word Track Changes) for remote manuscript review.
