POSITION OVERVIEW:
This is public education, promotional and community relations work will involve facilitating, coordinating, planning and organizing FireSmart related activities to promote fire safety awareness within the City of Maple Ridge. The FireSmart coordinator will provide recommendations to homeowners; conduct research and site visits with a Firefighter and community outreach and facilitate FireSmart 101 sessions throughout the City; and prepare related correspondence and reports. The FireSmart Coordinator will attend tradeshows, wildfire preparedness days and community public events; promote fire and life safety in the community and participate in the development of tabletop exercises. The work will be performed under general supervision and require public contact and the exercise of tact, discretion and sound judgement.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of a post-secondary diploma in Forestry or related field and some related FireSmart and/or wildfire management behaviour experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
