Facilitate various age-based activities that promote physical activity, healthy eating and nutrition, positive personal development and wellness, and engage and support elementary and primary school-aged children and families in our community. Responsibilities
To assist with the preparation of camp sessions with the assistance of the Camp Directors. Working under the supervision of the Camp Directors, the Camp Leader will prepare and deliver summer camp programming in various ways through physical activities aimed at engaging youth in fun, recreational and life-long learning objectives. Supervise youth attending the camps and promote safety, respect and inclusivity amongst all participants. Ensure a friendly and supportive atmosphere is maintained by developing appropriate strategies to support youth in managing their behaviour. Ensure that the health and safety needs of the children are met, and all health and safety issues are dealt with immediately and appropriately. Clean and tidy the facility and ensure the safe storage of equipment. Report regularly to Camp Leader and Program Manager regarding issues of need and concern. Communicate the mission, values and operating principles of the organisation to employees and other stakeholders. Qualifications
Experience working as a camp counsellor Completed, or currently enrolled in, a post secondary Diploma or Degree program, in Child and Youth Education, Early Childhood Education, teaching/education, social work, recreation and leisure, related fields OR relevant working experience Experience with leading children and youth activities Knowledge of children and youth programs Ability to work as a team member in an agile, complex environment and organise time and workload effectively Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with all levels of staff, stakeholders, and program participants while maintaining objectivity Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, participants and parents/guardians Demonstrate problem-solving ability Ability to perform the physical requirements of the job, including frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching or crawling, and to use various sports equipment used in the program Current First Aid and CPR certification (Required prior to start date) Current vulnerable sector screening (criminal background check) This job is 100% onsite — you must have daily, reliable transportation to and from the camp location (either Newmarket, Aurora or Georgina — exact location TBD) Valid “G2” license and reliable car preferred, but not required Deadline and application notes: The application deadline is stated as May 1, but interviews can be scheduled as early as April 28, so we encourage all qualified candidates to apply at their earliest convenience.
