Job description
This position is part of the Rotary and Mission Systems business area, where employees across Canada support engineering, systems integration, training, sustainment and in‑service support programs for Canadian and international military customers across land, air and sea.

Specific Job Description As a Software Engineer Staff working as an Agile Coach, you will support cross‑functional engineering teams—including software, systems, test, and related disciplines—in strengthening their Agile practices and improving how they plan, deliver, and collaborate. You will coach Scrum Masters, Product Owners, team leads, and engineers to refine ceremonies, increase delivery predictability, and adopt effective Agile techniques. This role emphasizes hands‑on coaching, mentoring, facilitation, and practical guidance that aligns with real engineering workflows. A background in software engineering is valuable to understand technical complexities and team dynamics; however, you will not be expected to perform engineering tasks in this role.

This role can be based from either our Ottawa, Montreal or Halifax offices.

Required skills, qualifications and experience

Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related field

9+ years of hands‑on Agile experience (Scrum, Kanban, Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), or similar frameworks)

A strong background in software engineering to support credible coaching of technical teams and cross‑functional engineering groups

Experience coaching diverse engineering roles, including systems, test, and project leadership

Excellent facilitation, communication, and coaching skills across a wide range of stakeholders

Proven ability to help teams improve planning, execution, flow, and collaboration

Experience with Jira, Confluence, and Agile lifecycle management tools

A pragmatic, context‑driven approach to Agile that fits within complex program environments.

Desired skills, qualifications and experience

Experience as a Scrum Master, Product Owner, or technical team lead

Familiarity with program‑level planning, integration points, and cross‑disciplinary coordination

Experience coaching mid‑level leaders (e.g., Integrated Product Team (IPT) Leads, Control Account Managers (CAMs), or cross‑functional leads)

Exposure to scaled Agile frameworks such as SAFe or Large‑Scale Scrum (LeSS)

Agile certifications such as International Consortium for Agile (ICAgile), Certified Scrum Professional (CSP), SAFe Program Consultant (SPC), or equivalent

Awareness of systems engineering practices, test activities, and modern engineering workflows (e.g., Development, Security, and Operations (DevSecOps), Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery/Deployment (CI/CD), Model‑Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)).
