Job descriptionReporting to the Branch Manager, the Service Manager is responsible for monitoring and overseeing the safety, cost, schedule, and execution of work across all yard operations and assigned projects. This role provides leadership, training, and direction to service technicians and subcontractors, ensuring operational efficiency and high‑quality service delivery. The Service Manager is accountable for timely and accurate reporting, both internally and to clients.
Duties and Responsibilities Planning
Ensure all work scopes are clearly defined, organized, and executed accordingly.
Coordinate manpower, equipment, and materials to ensure timely project execution.
Work closely with the Branch Manager to develop project and yard work plans, including all relevant documentation.
Maintain open communication with the Fleet Administrator and Branch Manager, providing weekly deliverables and daily updates as required.
Attend and actively participate in internal meetings, including weekly operations and monthly planning sessions.
Review, forecast, and update project costing and scheduling on a weekly basis.
Maintain a strong, day‑to‑day understanding of all ongoing yard activities and priorities.
Safety
Ensure full compliance with company safety policies and procedures across all yard operations.
Report incidents immediately to the appropriate internal stakeholders, including the Corporate Safety team, and ensure proper documentation and follow‑up.
Participate in safety reviews, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
Work closely with HSE teams to develop and implement safety standards, practices, and control measures.
Act as the primary safety lead for the branch yard operations.
Yard Management
Oversee daily yard operations, ensuring efficiency, organization, and productivity.
Supervise, mentor, and train service technicians and yard personnel.
Track labor hours against quoted work to ensure projects remain within budget.
Monitor and report weekly on work completed in the yard.
Identify operational issues proactively and implement corrective actions.
Track and report weekly on fleet location, movement, and status within the yard.
Coordinate service calls and support field operations when required.
Manage yard‑related expenses in alignment with budget expectations.
Ensure tools, equipment, and materials are properly maintained and utilized.
Support project execution from a yard operations perspective.
Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications & Requirements
Minimum 7+ years of industry experience, or 10+ years in construction or related field operations.
Proven leadership experience managing teams in a hands‑on environment.
Strong background in construction, service management, or yard/field operations (modular experience is an asset).
Experience in automotive or equipment service management environments is considered an asset.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Strong project management, organizational, and time‑management skills.
Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making abilities.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage diverse teams and client relationships.
Customer‑service oriented with experience supporting high‑value or complex clients.
Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, high‑demand environment with changing priorities.
Results‑driven with a proactive, “hands‑on” leadership style.
Experience managing budgets, expenses, and operational costs.
Valid and clean G Driver’s License.
Additional Requirements
Willingness and ability to pass drug and alcohol testing in accordance with company policy.
Flexibility to travel occasionally to job sites as required.
Working Conditions
Work performed both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Frequent standing and walking for extended periods.
Repetitive physical movements.
Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs.
