The Alzheimer Society of Peterborough Kawartha Lakes Northumberland and Haliburton is seeking a passionate community-minded professional to join our team as a Community Engagement Facilitator.

About the Role

We are seeking an outgoing relationship-driven professional who thrives on building connections engaging diverse audiences and creating meaningful partnerships that strengthen dementia-inclusive communities.

As the Community Engagement Facilitator you will serve as a visible ambassador for the Alzheimer Society building relationships fostering partnerships and creating opportunities that advance our mission and strengthen dementia-inclusive communities.

You will spend significant time in the community attending events participating on committees connecting with businesses and service clubs recruiting volunteers developing partnerships and promoting awareness and inclusion for people living with dementia and their care partners.

Success in this role is driven primarily by community outreach relationship-building partnership development and public engagement. We are looking for someone who is comfortable initiating conversations cultivating new opportunities and transforming connections into lasting community partnerships.

While public education and workshop facilitation are important components of the position this role is best suited for someone who enjoys being out in the community building relationships expanding awareness and creating opportunities that advance the mission of the Alzheimer Society.


Key Responsibilities


Community Outreach & Partnership Development

  • Serve as a visible ambassador for the Alzheimer Society throughout the region
  • Proactively build relationships with businesses service clubs municipalities healthcare partners and community organizations
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to expand community awareness and engagement
  • Conduct outreach to develop new partnerships and strengthen existing relationships
  • Promote dementia-inclusive practices throughout the communities we serve
  • Represent the organization through presentations outreach activities and stakeholder engagement
  • Develop and maintain strong referral and collaboration networks

Volunteer Recruitment & Community Mobilization

  • Recruit volunteers across the four-county service area
  • Promote volunteer opportunities within the community
  • Engage volunteers to support outreach initiatives events and education activities
  • Build community capacity through volunteer and stakeholder engagement

Education and Program Facilitation

  • Lead the planning promotion and implementation of the Dementia Friendly Communities (DFC) program across the service area including coordinating initiatives and program activities.
  • Deliver public education sessions on dementia brain health and related topics
  • Coordinate and facilitate all Educational Dementia Immersive Experience (EDIE) workshops and immersive learning experiences
  • Raise awareness and advocate for early diagnosis through presentations events and community outreach
  • Support and expand public education initiatives in collaboration with the Education team
  • Maintain current knowledge of dementia care and best practices participate in professional development and contribute to the ongoing evolution of the role and programs.
  • Act as a key resource and point of contact for community partners
  • Collaborate with regional initiatives and service providers to strengthen referral pathways

Program Administration & Evaluation

  • Monitor program activities outcomes and budget alignment
  • Collect data track metrics and contribute to reporting and evaluation
  • Support continuous improvement and sustainability planning for the program
  • Collaborate with provincial partners to ensure alignment with broader initiatives

Education & Experience

  • Diploma or degree in community development adult education communications public relations nonprofit management fundraising social services healthcare or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • 23 years of experience in community engagement outreach education program coordination volunteer management fundraising or a related role
  • Experience working with individuals living with dementia older adults care partners or within the health social services nonprofit or community support sector is considered an asset
  • Demonstrated experience delivering presentationsfacilitatingworkshops or leading public education sessions
  • Experience building collaborative relationships with community partners businesses volunteers and diverse stakeholder groups
  • Strong understanding of community development principles and inclusive person-centred approaches
  • Experience planning coordinating and implementing community-based programs initiatives or events
  • Experience using social media digital communication tools and Microsoft Office applications to support outreach and engagement activities
  • Demonstrated ability to confidentlyrepresentan organization within the community and build meaningful connections with diverse audiences
  • Demonstrated experience working with individuals living with dementia and their care partners or within the health social services or community support sector
  • Proven experience in community outreach engagement and partnership development
  • Experience working within a non-profit and/or community-based organization
  • Experience recruiting training and supporting volunteers
  • Knowledge of the local community landscape including the needs and resources within the service area

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of Alzheimers disease dementia and person-centred practices
  • Excellent public speaking presentation and facilitation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and relationship-building abilities
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders and build collaborative relationships
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently
  • Cultural sensitivity and awareness of diversity
  • Knowledge of community health and social service systems within the region
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office client databases and social media platforms

This Role Requires

  • Frequent travel throughout the four-county region
  • Valid G Class drivers license and access to a reliable insured vehicle
  • Comfort with independent outreach and relationship-building
  • Confidence building connections with prospective community partners and stakeholders
  • Strong networking and public-facing communication skills
  • The ability to represent the organization professionally in diverse community settings
  • Vulnerable Sector Police Check (within the last 2 months)
  • Membership in a relevant professional regulatory body is considered an asset
  • Position requires flexibility to work evenings and weekends based on program and community needs

Working Conditions
This role includes a combination of community-based outreach and office work with regular travel across the four counties and active engagement in community settings. The nature of this role requires flexibility in scheduling including the ability to begin work earlier or end later than regular office hours (8:30 a.m. 4:30 p.m.) to support travel community outreach presentations events committee participation and stakeholder engagement throughout the service area. These scheduling adjustments are required periodically based on program and community needs

Our Compensation Package


  • Grade 4 position with starting salary commensurate to experience
  • $22.00 - 27.00 per hour (35 hours per week)
  • Competitive platinum level benefits package that rivals what is offered at many large corporations fully covered by the Society and includes Employee Assistance Program
  • 15 days vacation in addition to office closure between December 24 and January 2. All vacation hours are accessible to you within three months of your employment with us.
  • Vacation increases to 20 days after four years of service
  • 18 sick days per year 5 of which may be used for family obligation reasons
  • 5 paid and 5 additional unpaid emergency leave days per year
  • 1 additional Wellness Day after five years of service
  • Flex schedule options; During summer months flex time may be leveraged to take Friday afternoons off to enjoy the weather and all that living that our 4 counties offer
