Department: Projects

At KBL, we do things differently. As Western Canada’s largest environmental waste management company—born in the North and built on resilience—we’ve grown by trusting our people, keeping them safe and backing bold ideas. We're proud to be recognized as one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies!

We’re looking for a Heavy Equipment Operator to support our growing team. The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for day-to-day duties on site needed to complete work in a safe and timely fashion and maintain a clean work site. This may include the moving and tracking of materials with various equipment including forklifts, loaders, scoop trams, rock trucks, excavators and hook truck. The Heavy Equipment Operator is also responsible to run the screening plant and is expected to take part in general housekeeping with some manual labour.

What You’ll Do

  • Loading a diverse range of materials such as earth, rock, and demolition debris into heavy trucks or train cars.

  • Perform preventative maintenance and daily operation checks on equipment, maintain cleanliness and order on site—clean, lubricate, and fuel all equipment, and handle general site housekeeping.

  • Safely move materials from excavation sites to designated stockpiles, ensuring efficiency and accuracy.

  • Perform general labour tasks as required, including but not limited to digging, sweeping, monitoring, sampling, and spotting for trucks.

Who You Are

  • 3-5 years’ experience operating heavy construction equipment.

  • Class 3 License with Air Brake certification will be considered an asset.

  • Strong work ethic and willingness to persevere through difficult weather conditions, challenging work site environments, and long demanding work days.

  • Basic comprehension and ability to follow KBL’s Workplace Health and Safety requirements relevant to the assigned work site, including but not limited to KBL’s “Stop & Think Process” and KBL’s “Hazard Assessment Process”.

What You Need

  • Must have the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Must be Fit-for-Work each day.

  • Must have the ability to stand for extended periods of time.

  • Safely work and travel in all weather conditions.

  • Must be willing to work shift work.

We’re committed to providing a safe, supportive work environment. Reasonable accommodations are available to those who qualify.

Why You’ll Love Working Here

  • Trust & Empowerment: Empowered culture with minimal bureaucracy- just real responsibility, ownership, and the flexibility to do your best work.

  • Growth & Agility: We’re entrepreneurial by nature—quick to adapt and deeply invested in your development.

  • Care & Commitment: From top-tier benefits (including $3,000 annually for psychological support) to a focus on safety and wellness, we put our people first.

  • Meaningful Impact: Your work helps build safer, cleaner communities across Canada and that’s something to be proud of.

Why You’ll Love Our Perks

  • Competitive wage, allowances and above-market benefits.

  • RRSP matching, Health Care Spending Account, Wellness account, and flexible work options where feasible.

  • Paid training and development opportunities, Manager training program, formal Employee Recognition program.

We’re Proud of Where We Come From—and Where We’re Going

Founded in the North in 2006 and led by an EY Entrepreneur of the Year, KBL continues to grow with purpose and agility. We share our success with our people and invest in their well-being every step of the way.
