Job description

SENIOR PIPELINE ENGINEER

THE BIG PICTURE

At Lauren, we believe the best work happens when people are motivated to do what they do best. That means creating an environment where team members work together, take ownership, and see their hard work through to success.

We’re into doing the right thing, even when it’s hard. We value people who speak up, stay accountable, and look for better ways forward. We leverage each other’s strengths, sweat the details, and take pride in the results we deliver.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Pipeline Engineer’s primary responsibility is leading and delivering mainline pipeline project work across Canada, providing senior technical oversight, engineer‑of‑record (EOR) accountability, and sound engineering judgment throughout project execution. This role is suited to a highly experienced engineer with a strong technical reputation and a proven track record on major pipeline developments.

In addition to project delivery, the position provides secondary support to business development and client engagement activities, contributing technical expertise to proposals, pursuits, and client discussions as required. Through this involvement, the role helps strengthen Lauren’s technical credibility while ensuring continuity between project execution and client expectations.

The successful candidate will bring 20+ years of Canadian pipeline engineering experience, with demonstrated expertise in large‑diameter (“big inch”), long‑distance mainline pipelines transporting gas and/or liquid products.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Technical Authority & Collaboration

    • Serve as a senior technical resource within the pipeline group, supporting consistent application of engineering standards, practices, and accepted industry methodologies.

    • Collaborate closely with pipeline engineers, designers, project managers, and multi‑disciplinary teams to support effective project delivery.

    • Provide informal mentorship and technical guidance to engineers and designers, supporting professional development and technical excellence.

    • Contribute to continuous improvement of pipeline engineering practices, lessons learned, and technical approaches across projects.

  • Project Execution Support & Technical Oversight

    • Provide senior‑level technical oversight for pipeline engineering activities on engineering and EPCM projects.

    • Review and approve key engineering pipeline deliverables to ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, regulatory requirements, and client specifications.

    • Collaborate with others, including geotechnical and hydrotechnical engineers, the environment, and surveyors.

    • Support resolution of complex technical and constructability issues through sound engineering judgment and experience‑based decision‑making.

    • Provide technical input during project scope development, design reviews, interface discussions, and change management processes.

    • Support smooth transition of projects from proposal to execution by confirming alignment between proposed and executed scope, assumptions, and deliverables.

    • Conduct or support periodic field reviews, constructability assessments, and respond to technical queries as required.

  • Technical Support for Proposals & Client Engagements (As Required)

    • Provide senior technical input to project pursuits and proposals, ensuring alignment between proposed approaches and practical, executable project delivery.

    • Review and validate technical scopes of work, RFP requirements, and client expectations to confirm feasibility, compliance, and consistency with Lauren’s execution capabilities.

    • Support development of technical proposal content (as required), including execution strategies, engineering scope definitions, assumptions, exclusions, and high‑level risk identification tied to project delivery realities.

    • Contribute project-informed input to estimating and resourcing discussions, validating technical effort, sequencing, constructability, and execution risk based on prior project experience.

    • Participate selectively in client meetings, technical discussions, and presentations as a senior technical representative, reinforcing confidence in Lauren’s project delivery approach and engineering judgment.

    • Act as a trusted technical advisor to project and proposal teams, ensuring continuity between pre‑award commitments and post‑award execution expectations.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education

    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or an equivalent combination of education and extensive relevant experience.

    • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registration in Canada, or eligibility for registration with applicable provincial regulators.

  • Experience Requirements

    • Minimum 20 years of progressive experience in pipeline engineering.

    • Extensive experience delivering Canadian mainline pipeline projects, including:

      • Large‑diameter pipelines (20 inches or greater)

      • Long‑distance alignments (100 km or longer)

    • Experience in gas and/or liquid pipeline systems, including greenfield and brownfield projects.

    • Demonstrated involvement in proposal support, business development, or front‑end project definition is considered a strong asset.

  • Technical Knowledge

    • Strong working knowledge of Canadian pipeline codes, standards, and regulatory requirements (e.g., CSA Z662 and related standards).

    • Familiarity with ASME B31.8, geohazards, steep slopes and field experience is an asset.

    • Experience with typical mainline pipeline engineering deliverables, calculations, and design documentation.

    • Understanding of constructability, construction interfaces, and execution risks associated with large‑scale pipeline projects.

  • Skills & Competencies

    • Strong technical judgment with the ability to assess risk, constructability, and execution implications.

    • Clear and effective communicator, able to engage confidently with clients, regulators, contractors, and internal teams.

    • Highly organized and able to balance proposal support with project execution responsibilities.

    • Comfortable working independently while contributing effectively within multi‑disciplinary teams.

    • Professional presence and credibility appropriate for senior client‑facing and proposal environments.

  • Additional Information

    • Full‑time or part‑time engagement will be considered.

    • Remote work arrangement acceptable within Canada.

    • Occasional travel may be required to support client meetings, projects, or field activities.
