As a Senior Wind and Fluid Mechanics Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering and leading complex technical work within a multidisciplinary environment. Based in Toronto, you will collaborate with teams across Canada, North America, and globally, contributing to high-impact projects spanning microclimate and wind engineering. This role offers the opportunity to influence design decisions on some of Arup’s most technically challenging projects while helping to grow and shape a developing practice in Canada.

The opportunity
You will lead the delivery of complex wind analyses, working across a diverse portfolio of projects from early concept through to detailed design. The candidate will act as a technical lead, providing direction, quality assurance, and mentorship to junior team members. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams - including mechanical, fire, rail, water, and urban planning - you will help integrate environmental and physical modelling insights into project outcomes. This is a highly collaborative role with opportunities to engage with international specialists and contribute to innovative, design-led solutions.
Key responsibilities include:
- Act as technical lead on projects, including review and sign-off of complex analyses
- Interface directly with clients and stakeholders, presenting technical findings clearly
- Support and contribute to proposals, bids, and broader business development activities
- Demonstrated project management experience, including managing scope, budgets, schedules, and change control for small to medium scale projects.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to inform design decisions
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers

Is this role right for you?
Required:
- Degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering (with an emphasis on fluid mechanics and/or wind engineering).
- Currently a licensed Professional Engineer in Ontario or another Canadian Province.
- 8+ years in consultancy, including senior-level project delivery
- Core expertise in wind and microclimate, with broader exposure to thermal analysis and hydraulic flows.
- Experience in sectors such as data centres, property, urban microclimates, and laboratory environments.
- Strong experience applying CFD to inform design using tools such as OpenFOAM and ANSYS CFX/Fluent.
Preferred:
- Experience with dynamic thermal modelling tools such as EnergyPlus, IES or similar
- Working knowledge of Python and exposure to Rhino/Revit.
- Working proficiency in French.
- Experience conducting wind tunnel testing to assess wind flows, pedestrian comfort, building aerodynamics, and interpret results to inform design decisions.

Toronto Hiring Range – Hiring Range - The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performed in Toronto is $125,800 -$157,250 per year. This range is commensurate with experience, educational background, and skill level. Benefits are not included in the base salary. Please note hiring ranges for candidates performing work outside of Toronto will differ.
