Job description
Your Responsibilities

The Communications Coordinator will report to the Senior Director of Communications and play a key role in implementing the organization's communications strategy by supporting digital storytelling, supporting media engagement, and creating compelling content that shares the impact of teaching in the North and Nation-led education initiatives.

  • Social Media and Digital Engagement - Support multi-platform social media strategies across Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, Facebook, and BlueSky to boost national brand awareness. Create tailored multimedia content, monitor trends, track performance metrics, and support targeted digital campaigns including teacher recruitment initiatives.
  • Storytelling and Content Development - Source and craft compelling stories from educators, students, and community partners for multimedia content across platforms, materials, and communications channels.
  • Media and Public Relations Support - Monitor news coverage and education trends to identify media opportunities while supporting relationship-building with journalists. Assist with press releases, media pitches, and write public-facing content.
  • Departmental Support and Collaboration - Coordinate quarterly newsletter production and support internal communications. Collaborate with vendors and teams on timely deliverables, maintain website and support emerging departmental projects and organizational priorities.

Job term: Full-time, contract

Contract duration: Immediate Start to March 31, 2026

Requirements: Potential candidates must be First Nations, Inuit, or Métis, and reside within the Greater Toronto Area. Candidates must be registered or eligible to register with Miziwe Biik Aboriginal Employment and Training, and working with an Employment Advisor. More information on how to register with Miziwe Biik will be provided to shortlisted candidates.

Desired Experience: 1 year of experience in communications, marketing, journalism, or a related field. Demonstrated experience developing and managing social media campaigns for an organization or brand. Excellent written and visual communication skills, with a strong eye for detail and storytelling. Experience in video editing, photography, or web content management systems is an asset. Experience living, teaching in, or working with a northern First Nation is a strong asset.
