Position: High Performance Advisor, Winter Sports


Reports to: Directly to the VP, Winter Sports


Location: Fully remote within Canada, with substantial domestic and/or international travel required. Must be flexible for evening/weekend commitments as needed.

About Own the Podium


Own the Podium is a not-for-profit organization that provides leadership for Canadian sports to achieve sustainable and improved podium performances at the Olympic and Paralympic Games through a values-based approach. It prioritizes and determines investment strategies for National Sport Organizations in an effort to deliver more Olympic and Paralympic medals for Canada. Own the Podium’s largest contributor of funding is the Government of Canada with additional funding provided by the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC), the Canadian Olympic Foundation, and the Canadian Paralympic Committee (CPC). Own the Podium continues to drive Canada’s high performance sport system forward in a quest to help more athletes and coaches succeed in future Olympic and Paralympic Games.




Scope of Position


The High Performance Advisor (HPA) will advise and work with NSOs to develop and deliver world-leading high performance plans that support athletes and coaches in winning well. This role will focus on both Olympic and Paralympic sports. The HPA will also support Olympic NSOs in the development and implementation of their Games plan to elevate performance in the Games environment.



Key Responsibilities


The High Performance Advisor (HPA) will be responsible to achieve the following objectives:



  • Champion the development and delivery of world-class high performance programs alongside NSO technical teams.

  • Build strong, trusted relationships to understand needs and inspire collaboration across the sport system.

  • Identify opportunities to elevate performance and drive continuous improvement.

  • Lead assessments and contribute to smart investment strategies that maximize impact and results.

  • Stay ahead of global trends by researching and integrating best practices into program design.

  • Partner with the Canadian Olympic Committee and Canadian Paralympic Committee to support Games planning and performance readiness.

  • Collaborate with performance science experts and sport institute partners to optimize program support and results.

  • Take on special projects that shape the future of high performance sport in Canada.




Experience, Qualifications and Skills



  • Over five (5) years of senior level experience in high performance sport, including Paralympic environment and working with an NSO.

  • University Degree or College Diploma in sport, psychology, kinesiology, or related discipline or equivalent experience.

  • Comprehensive understanding of and proven experience with Athlete and Team Pathways and underpinning requirements to win well at the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

  • Strong emotional intelligence to work with NSOs and system partners through an inclusive, trusted, collaborative, and adaptable approach.

  • Computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite are required.

  • Experience functioning with virtual communication platforms (i.e. Zoom, Teams, WhatsApp, etc.).

  • Proven leadership in strategic planning and operational execution.

  • Demonstrated experience with complex project management from design to delivery, including leading diverse teams/engaging multiple stakeholder groups and a proven record of execution within scope, on time and with impact.



Compensation



  • Final compensation will be based on qualifications and experience.

  • Benefits package will be provided.

Portée


Le conseiller ou la conseillère en haute performance (CHP) conseillera et appuiera les ONS dans l’élaboration de plans de haute performance de calibre mondial pour aider les athlètes et les entraîneurs à bien gagner. Ce rôle appuie à la fois les sports olympiques et paralympiques. Le ou la CHP appuiera également les ONS olympiques dans l’élaboration et la mise en œuvre de leur plan olympique pour rehausser la performance dans l’environnement des Jeux.



Responsabilités clés


Le ou la CHP sera responsable d’atteindre les objectifs suivants :



  • Soutenir le développement et la prestation de programmes de haute performance de calibre mondial en partenariat avec les équipes techniques des ONS.

  • Bâtir des liens de confiance solides afin de comprendre les besoins et encourager la collaboration à l’échelle du système sportif.

  • Identifier des opportunités pour rehausser la performance et favoriser l’amélioration continue.

  • Diriger les évaluations et contribuer à des stratégies d’investissement intelligentes qui maximisent l’impact et les résultats.

  • Demeurer à l’affût des tendances mondiales en recherchant et en intégrant les pratiques exemplaires dans la conception de programmes.

  • Collaborer avec le Comité olympique canadien et le Comité paralympique canadien pour appuyer la planification et la préparation pour les Jeux.

  • Collaborer avec les experts des sciences de la performance et les partenaires des instituts sportifs pour optimiser le soutien et les résultats des programmes.

  • Contribuer à des projets spéciaux qui façonneront l’avenir du sport de haut niveau au Canada.




Expérience, qualifications et aptitudes



  • Plus de cinq (5) ans d’expérience de travail comme cadre dans le sport de haut niveau, incluant l’environnement paralympique et le travail auprès d’un ONS.

  • Diplôme universitaire ou collégial en sport, en psychologie, en kinésiologie ou discipline connexe ou expérience équivalente.

  • Compréhension approfondie et expérience éprouvée de la voie d’accès de l’athlète et de l’équipe et des exigences essentielles pour bien gagner aux Jeux olympiques et paralympiques.

  • Profonde intelligence émotionnelle dans le cadre du travail avec les ONS et les partenaires du système grâce à une approche inclusive, collaborative et adaptable, basée sur la confiance.

  • Compétences informatiques et connaissance du progiciel Microsoft Office obligatoires.

  • Expérience avec les plateformes de communication virtuelles (ex. : Zoom, Teams, WhatsApp, etc.).



  • Leadership éprouvé en matière de planification stratégique et d’exécution opérationnelle.

  • Expérience avérée dans la gestion de projets complexes, de la conception à la prestation, incluant la direction d’équipes diversifiées et l’engagement de multiples groupes de parties prenantes, en plus d’un succès avéré de l’exécution de tels projets, en matière de portée, d’échéance et d’impact.
