Rooted in community and focused on performance, NPEI is entering a period of significant growth and opportunity shaped by electrification, modernization, customer expectations and a focus on new non-regulated businesses. To help lead that next chapter, NPEI is seeking a dynamic Executive Vice President & Chief Financial Officer (EVP & CFO).

WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS

Because this is a rare opportunity to influence the future of a respected community utility at a time of major sector transformation

Because you will have the scope to shape strategy, strengthen performance, guide transformation and create value for customers, communities and shareholders

Because you will join an organization that values safety, customer-centricity, accountability, collaboration and community impact

We are seeking an executive energized by complexity and the challenge to influence enterprise performance

Shape Strategy. Drive Transformation. Power the Future of Energy!

Reporting to the President & CEO, the EVP & CFO is one of the organization’s enterprise leaders. This role carries broad strategic scope and visible impact, guiding financial strength, shaping major business decisions, influencing long-range planning and helping position the utility to thrive in a complex and evolving energy environment.

With executive oversight spanning Finance, Customer Experience, Regulatory Affairs and IT & Client Services, the role demands a leader who can translate strategy into execution, align diverse priorities and bring clarity to high-stakes decisions. The successful candidate will combine financial depth with enterprise vision, commercial judgment and strong leadership presence.

WHAT YOU WILL LEAD

Enterprise leadership and strategic influence

  • As part of the Executive team, you will help shape corporate strategy, business planning, governance, enterprise risk oversight and major investment decisions
  • Lead and inspire senior leaders across multiple portfolios, building alignment, accountability, succession strength and enterprise-wide thinking

Financial stewardship, capital strategy and performance

  • Provide executive oversight across financial planning and analysis, budgeting, forecasting, reporting, accounting, taxation, treasury, audit, analytics, capital planning and investment evaluation
  • Shape long-term financial strategy to support asset renewal, grid modernization, growth opportunities and affordability objectives while protecting financial strength
  • Lead banking and financing relationships, liquidity management, capital structure considerations and financial analysis for significant business cases and infrastructure programs
  • Use metrics, analytics and business insight to drive performance, sharpen decision-making and improve enterprise outcomes
  • Ensure strong audit, compliance and financial control practices that reinforce credibility, transparency and operational discipline
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments affecting financial reporting and ensure compliance with all applicable legal and regulatory requirements

Customers, Regulatory and Digital IT Leadership

  • Provide executive oversight for Customer Experience ensuring service delivery, billing, collections, communications and complaint resolution reflect responsiveness, transparency and care
  • Champion technology and transformation that strengthen service quality, accessibility, trust and the end-to-end customer journey while balancing affordability and operational effectiveness
  • Direct Regulatory strategy and oversight, including Rate Applications, evidence development, financial modelling, stakeholder engagement and hearing support
  • Maintain strong alignment with legislative, governance and regulatory obligations while anticipating sector developments and their business implications
  • Provide executive oversight for IT & Client Services so that systems, data, cybersecurity priorities and digital platforms remain secure, reliable and aligned to business strategy
  • Sponsor modernization and technology-enabled transformation that improves decision support, customer outcomes and organizational readiness for future growth

WHAT YOU WILL BRING

  • A powerful mix of strategic, commercial and financial acumen with the ability to connect operational, regulatory, customer and technology considerations into clear executive direction
  • A proven record of leading senior leaders, influencing Boards and stakeholders and creating alignment across complex portfolios
  • Exceptional analytical judgment and decision-making capability, including the ability to evaluate enterprise trade-offs, quantify risk and guide high-impact investments
  • Experience leading change in a Regulated and evolving environment, including modernization, transformation, process redesign or digital advancement
  • Experienced corporate oversight with a non-regulated energy environment an asset
  • The communication range and relationship-building skills to present complex matters clearly to executives, regulators, municipal stakeholders, customers and external partners
  • The judgment, integrity, credibility and executive presence required for a highly visible leadership role with broad internal and external influence.
YOUR EXPERIENCE
  • A university degree in finance, accounting, economics, business administration or a related discipline, with a CPA designation required or strongly preferred; an MBA or equivalent executive education is an asset
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience, including significant executive-level responsibility in finance or corporate services within Ontario’s regulated electricity sector or the broader energy industry
  • Demonstrated success in regulated utility finance, rate applications, regulatory strategy, capital planning, treasury, audit, taxation, enterprise risk and board-level reporting
  • Strong knowledge of Ontario’s energy landscape, including the role of the Ontario Energy Board, sector economics, electrification, affordability pressures, grid modernization and customer expectations
  • Experience leading or overseeing functions beyond core finance — such as regulatory affairs, customer experience, information technology, shared services or transformation — will be highly valued
