Job descriptionPurpose of the Role The purpose of the Application Technician role is to lead and govern the on-site deployment, testing, and optimisation of Hypex Bio's explosive technology at customer sites, acting as the technical authority during project implementation, first-use trials, and performance validation. Duties and Responsibilities Lead project-based work at customer sites, including project initiation, on-site implementation, testing, and commissioning of Hypex Bio explosive technology. Act as the on-site technical lead during deployments, first-use trials, and technology introductions, ensuring correct application and safe adoption of Hypex Bio products. Define, apply, and adjust application methodologies, testing parameters, and optimisation. Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve technical and application-related issues in close collaboration with the Hypex Bio development and research teams. Provide technical training and guidance to customers and site personnel on correct application, system use, and operational best practices. Support the introduction and validation of new products and technologies by collecting performance data, observations, and feedback for continuous improvement and development input. Perform limited, non-routine maintenance activities only where required to support testing or application work, ensuring product performance and system reliability during trials. Provide remote technical support and monitoring focused on application performance, system behaviour, and optimisation opportunities at installed customer sites. Ensure all activities comply with safety, legal, and regulatory requirements related to explosives, blasting operations, and customer site standards. Build and maintain strong working relationships with customers and internal stakeholders to support successful implementation, knowledge transfer, and long-term technology adoption. Authorised to make technical decisions related to product application, testing, and optimisation during customer projects, escalating only safety-critical issues or formal design changes to Development. Knowledge and Experience Minimum 5 years' of demonstrated experience in an underground operational/explosives Mining environment At least 3 years' of demonstrated experience in Underground Blasting systems At least 3 years' on-the-job electrical installations Experience as a Blasting Foreman is an added advantage Educational Qualifications Diploma or Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or relevant tertiary qualification Trade Test Forklift Certificate ADR Certification C or CE License, BE, and YKB Certification Valid Drivers Licence Skills and Attributes MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) Sound people management experience is essential Report writing Technical insight Quality Management skills Presentation skills Technical skills in IRO mining explosives and services Responsible Self Motivated Curious Positive Attitude Detail oriented Solutions Oriented Great listening skills Drive to Improve Existing Processes High risk awareness Respect for instructions, laws and regulations
