What is the Opportunity?
Aecon Industrial leads the way in industrial construction with a proven track record of safely delivering a broad range of project solutions for our clients - from fabrication and modularization to new builds, turnarounds and maintenance. Aecon Industrial provides its clients with a vertically integrated solution, self-performing all disciplines of work.
Aecon Industrial is seeking an experienced Workface Planner – Piping to support execution of field construction through the development and management of Installation Work Packages (IWPs) in alignment with Advanced Work Packaging (AWP) principles.
The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring piping scopes areconstruction-ready, fully integrated with schedule, materials, and field constraints, and executed in a safe and efficient manner. This role will work in a combination of office and field environments.
Please Note:
-
This is a 12-month hourly contract position supporting work on the DOW Chemical project based in Fort Saskatchewan, AB.
-
The work schedule is four 10-hour days, and one 8-day per week.
What You'll Do Here:
Workface Planning / IWP Development
- Develop piping Installation Work Packages (IWPs) aligned with best practices
- Sequence work based on: construction priorities, P6 schedule alignment, system/area breakdown structures
- Define task-level execution steps, crew requirements, and installation logic
Constraint & Readiness Management
- Identify, track, and mitigate constraints including: Engineering (IFC drawings, isometrics), Materials (spools, valves, specialty items), Scaffolding, equipment, access, permits
- Ensure all IWPs are constraint-free prior to release
Drawing & Technical Review
- Review and interpret: piping isometrics, P&IDs, layout drawings
- Validate: work scopes, installation sequencing, tie-ins, weld counts, and system boundaries
Materials & Logistics Coordination
- Interface with procurement and warehousing teams to: confirm material availability, align IWP release with material status
- Support development of: bills of materials (BOMs), field material take-offs
Schedule Integration
- Align IWPs with: Primavera P6 schedule,Path of Construction (POC)
- Support lookahead planning (3-week/6-week windows)
Field Execution Support
- Work closely with: Superintendents, General Foremen, Field Coordinators
- Provide clarity on: work packages, execution sequencing, productivity assumptions
Reporting & Continuous Improvement
- Track: IWP release vs plan, constraint resolution timelines
- Support lessons learned and continuous improvement of WFP processes
What You Bring to the Team:
- 5+ years in industrial construction planning, with strong exposure to piping installation & constraint canagement
- Experience on large-scale industrial projects (oil & gas, mining, or petrochemical)
- Strong understanding of: Piping systems and installation practices Isometric drawings, project specfications and P&IDs Welding, testing, and turnover process
- Familiarity with work package development, construction sequencing, critical path & field workflows
- Exprience with: Primvera P6, Bluebeam Revu, Digital WorkPacks/WFP tools, Excel-based trackers and planning tools
- Ability to work within: Digital CDE/document control systems
- Strong planning and organizational skills
- Ability to interpret complex technical information into executable work plans
- Effective communication with field and engineering teams
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality
