Job Title: Warehouse and Yard Operations Supervisor
Job Description
This role oversees the daily operations of a small warehouse and yard, leading a team of approximately six employees. The supervisor manages scheduling, inventory control for both the warehouse and yard, and ensures that customer service expectations are consistently met. While the position focuses primarily on computer-based and administrative work, the supervisor also actively supports floor operations by assisting with order picking and loading customer vehicles when needed.
Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day operations of a small warehouse and yard, ensuring smooth and efficient workflows.
- Lead and support a team of approximately six employees, providing clear direction and guidance.
- Communicate regularly with upper management and provide daily and weekly operational updates.
- Manage and control inventory for the warehouse and yard, maintaining accurate records and stock levels.
- Handle customer interactions, including assisting customers over the phone and in person when required.
- Schedule staff, manage hours, and ensure appropriate coverage for all operational needs.
- Ensure the warehouse and yard remain organized, clean, and safe at all times.
- Assist with order picking and operate equipment when needed to support the team and meet deadlines.
- Double-check orders to improve accuracy and reduce errors before shipment or pickup.
- Issue disciplinary letters on site as directed by upper management, following established performance management processes.
- Use computer systems to manage purchase orders (POs), bills of lading (BOLs), inventory control, and scheduling.
- Coordinate shipping and receiving activities to support efficient logistics and warehouse operations.
Essential Skills
- Proven experience in warehouse management, yard supervision, or operations leadership, including oversight of small teams.
- Hands-on experience in warehouse operations, including inventory control, shipping and receiving, and logistics.
- Experience supervising or leading a team in a warehouse or yard environment.
- Strong inventory management skills with the ability to maintain accurate warehouse and yard inventory records.
- Customer service experience, including handling regular customer interactions and phone inquiries.
- Sit-down counterbalance forklift experience, including loading trailers, vans, and trucks.
- Proficiency in computer operations, including working with purchase orders (POs), bills of lading (BOLs), and inventory control systems.
- Strong scheduling skills with experience coordinating staff hours and shift coverage.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with performance management processes, including supporting the issuance of disciplinary letters.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience as a warehouse or yard supervisor, manager, or team lead.
- Operations management experience in a logistics, distribution, or warehouse environment.
- Ability to build and maintain positive customer relationships with many regular customers.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail to maintain a clean and orderly warehouse and yard.
- Comfort working in a small, hands-on environment where both administrative and physical tasks are required.
- Knowledge in wheels, tires, or related products is a bonus!

Work Environment
The role is based in a small outdoor warehouse and yard environment that serves many regular customers. The setting combines office-based administrative work with hands-on operational tasks such as order picking, loading customer vehicles, and operating sit-down counterbalance forklifts. You will use computers extensively to manage purchase orders, bills of lading, inventory control, scheduling, and overall operations management. The environment requires comfort working both indoors and outdoors and maintaining an organized, clean, and safe workspace.
