About Ontario Shipyards

Ontario Shipyards operates two premier marine facilities on Lake Ontario: our main fabrication hub in Hamilton and the historic Port Weller Dry Docks on the Welland Canal in St. Catharines. Together, we form the largest Canadian-owned ship repair and refit operation on the Great Lakes. As a trusted partner to the Canadian Coast Guard and major commercial fleets, our combined yards deliver everything from advanced manufacturing to massive vessel life extensions.

The company is embarking on an unprecedented period of growth driven by the opportunities created by Canada’s National Shipbuilding Strategy. At the same time, the company is executing the Ontario Shipyard Modernization Project (OSMP) which is a multi-million-dollar initiative that is revolutionizing shipyard operations in Ontario and ultimately Canada. Our team takes immense pride in keeping the Great Lakes fleet moving, building and maintaining the giant vessels that drive Canada's economy – where water meets mettle.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Procurement Manager, the Stores Coordinator provides field-level assurance that all industrial materials, parts, and tools are properly controlled and that supply logistics are seamlessly in place before production begins. Working directly in active shipyard and warehouse environments, this role verifies critical deliveries, supports supervisors and trades with immediate material needs, and ensures inventory tracking, equipment integrity, and stock levels are maintained in real time. Unlike standard desk-bound logistics roles, this position requires an active, daily yard presence, navigating shops, tool rooms, and supply areas to engage directly with production teams and external vendors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor inventory levels, conduct regular physical cycle counts, and reconcile any discrepancies.
  • Maintain accurate system records by performing daily postings of Job Journal transactions and inventory updates in Dynamics 365 Business Central.
  • Plan, map out, label, and physically organize storage facilities (shops, tool rooms, and supply rooms) for safe, efficient item retrieval.
  • Maintain organized filing systems for requisitions, shipping/receiving documentation, and database logs.
  • Oversee the physical receiving and issuing of all goods, parts, and materials.
  • Verify incoming deliveries against packing slips and purchase orders, resolve discrepancies, and log receipts in the ERP system.
  • Notify internal recipients via email upon item arrival with specific pickup locations or storage status.
  • Create and file Bills of Materials for outgoing items, including handling inter-company transfers.
  • Safely operate forklifts to load, unload, stack, and move heavy industrial materials across the yard.
  • Assist with the manual loading, unloading, movement, and physical labelling of materials.
  • Review inventory usage and automated material planning reports to initiate reorders for low-stock or high-turnover items.
  • Collaborate with the Procurement team to source required goods and communicate report revisions.
  • Track pending deliveries and proactively follow up with vendors and suppliers to ensure on-time arrival.
  • Liaise daily with production, maintenance, and procurement to ensure material availability, escalating urgent shortages to senior management.
  • Act as the primary professional point of contact for external customers, suppliers, third-party logistics providers, couriers, and client Logistics Officers (e.g., Canadian Coast Guard).
  • Ensure all store operations strictly comply with company policies, safety standards, and environmental regulations.
  • Create, distribute, and train relief personnel on standard operating procedures.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Strong commitment to workplace safety and adherence to all health and safety procedures and protocols.
  • 3–5 years of experience in shipping, receiving, warehouse management, or inventory control within a heavy industrial, manufacturing, or construction environment.
  • Valid Forklift Operator License/Certification with proven experience safely driving and moving heavy materials in a dynamic workplace.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education in supply chain, logistics, or a related field is considered an asset.
  • Technical knowledge and familiarity with various parts, hardware, and specialized tools used across skilled trades (e.g., welding, electrical, mechanical).
  • Experience using ERP systems for inventory tracking; specific experience with Dynamics 365 Business Central is a strong asset.
  • WHMIS certification and familiarity with the safe handling/storage of industrial materials.
  • Strong physical fitness with the ability to repeatedly lift, carry, and move industrial materials.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain accurate digital logs and a highly organized physical workspace.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work independently or collaborate with cross-functional yard teams.
  • Reliable, dependable, and able to manage time effectively to support fast-paced shipyard operations.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience
  • Comprehensive health benefits including health, dental, vision, life and disability coverage for you and your dependents
  • RRSP matching program and Health Spending Account (HSA)
  • Paid vacation time and statutory holidays
  • Discounts on Safety Boots & Safety Glasses
  • Opportunities for professional development and specialized shipyard training
  • On-site parking
