Equipment Operator II

Description

The Equipment Operator II with Broadmoor Park Golf Course contributes to the maintenance and improvement of the Golf Course for the residents of Strathcona County and other members of the public through provision of day-to-day operational leadership of a crew and/or the safe operation of complex equipment.

This position is relied on to train and assign work to crew members including Laborers and Equipment Operator I addition this position performs manual labor as required. This position will support the Broadmoor Golf Course ensuring equipment is tournament-ready and help train staff on safe equipment use. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys precision teamwork and working outdoors in a dynamic environment.

This posting is for one hourly position up to 20 weeks

Key Responsibilities:

• Strathcona Countys Broadmoor Golf Course is responsible for Maintenance and the use of specialized equipment for golf turf areas including rough fairway tee and greens area
• Landscaping and beautification Golf course set up Special Events and Weed Control
• Operates self-propelled equipment including a variety of trucks trailers tractor/mowers skid steers front end loaders utility vehicles gas powered and electric hand tools and a variety of small equipment such string trimmer push mowers backpack blowers saws backpack sprayers snow blowers and drills in a safe and efficient manner
• Monitors maintains and services equipment to ensure it is in proper working order and meets operating and safety standards
  Uses and shares knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Regulations and Code follows safety guidelines identifies potential hazardous situations and adapts appropriately
• Assists Team Lead by training other staff members in the proper operation and maintenance of equipment
  Displays accountability when providing direction training and overseeing the work of small crews in the completion of assigned tasks and assists with other related duties
• Operate and maintain a variety of hand and power tools and equipment including rakes shovels screwdrivers paint brushes and similar tools
• Carry out invasive plant management using manual and mechanical methods
• Provide exceptional customer service to residents offering guidance on invasive plant identification and management practices
• Support the Team Lead by training coaching and supervising seasonal staff on Invasive Plant Management
• Promote a safe working environment by ensuring all staff are performing their tasks safely by implementing safe work practices and procedures
• Use knowledge and train others in relation to OHS Regulation and Code and follow safety guidelines to keep self and others safe on the worksites
  

Qualifications and Skills:

• Valid Pesticide Applicator Landscape Certificate or Willingness to obtain
• Valid Alberta Class 5 Drivers licence with Q-Endorsement (Air Brakes)
• High School diploma with two years related experience in an environmental field
• Attending or completed post-secondary education in an environmental field would be considered an asset
• Strong plant identification skills would be considered an asset
• Knowledge of municipal provincial and federal policies and legislation is an asset
• Effective customer service public relations and communication skills (verbal and written)
  

Conditions of Employment:

• Valid Alberta Class 5 Drivers licence and submission of a 5-year Drivers Abstract with less than 7 demerits
• Current Intermediate First Aid Level C CPR AED certification
• Physical strength stamina and coordination to perform manual work outdoors in all weather conditions including lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to work variable hours in alignment with maintenance schedules and operational needs
• Ability to work in small or confined spaces and in environments with loud noise and vibration
