Job description

Position Summary

Position Summary:The Paul J. Hill School of Business at the University of Regina invites applications for one Sessional Lecturer to teach the following in person course during the Winter 2026 semester:
BUS 494 – Derivatives and Risk Management
This course introduces students to the derivatives tools used in risk management. Topics will include the mechanics of futures, options and other derivatives markets; pricing; and strategies for using these instruments for risk management.

The Fall 2026 semester class period is from September 1, 2026 to December 7, 2026 with the final exam period running from December 9 to 22, 2026. Maximum enrolment for this course is 48 and a Teacher Assistant may be provided if requested and available.

Expectations for Sessional Lecturers include, but aren’t limited to, the following:

  • Preparing the course outline, designing relevant assignments, evaluating and grading student work, and submitting student grades on time;
  • Teaching course content that follows the course description, established learning objectives, and university academic guidelines;
  • Delivering 13 2.75-hour lectures throughout the semester (unless otherwise discussed with the Associate Dean);
  • Encouraging and maintaining a safe and collaborative classroom environment;
  • Providing regular support to students on course work as required before and after each class, during office hours, and as required by students;
  • Meeting all submission deadlines as outlined by the Hill School of Business;
  • Consulting with the Associate Dean (Undergraduate Programs) on academic or student-related matters as needed; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Graduate and/or PhD/doctorate degree in a discipline relevant to the course subject area (note that a bachelor’s degree coupled with relevant professional business experience may also be considered);
  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation;
  • Superior communication skills (both written and verbal);
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with respect to academic reporting; and
  • Recent teaching experience in a post-secondary environment considered an asset.
