Who We Are

Simon Fraser University is a leading research university, advancing an inclusive and sustainable future. Our purpose – the essence of SFU – is to create and connect knowledge, learning and community for deeper understanding and meaningful impact. We are committed to fostering excellence, innovation, belonging and community in all that we do.

About the Role

This role supports process improvement work to transform the experience of SFU students, faculty and staff. You will facilitate conversations with the community to understand where current services, processes and systems create unnecessary friction and identify opportunities for better coordinated and sustainable ways of working. As part of a strong project team, you will work collaboratively across SFU, using engagement, evidence and service improvement approaches to support meaningful learning, research and work.

As part of the Transforming the SFU Experience initiative, the Senior Consultant, Process Re-engineering will lead service optimization work focused on understanding and improving how services and work flow across SFU. Working collaboratively with faculty and staff across academic and administrative areas, the role will engage with those closest to the work to understand current experiences, identify barriers and interdependencies, and develop practical opportunities for improvement. The role will help establish consistent approaches to process analysis, service design and documentation, and will support evidence-informed recommendations. This is an opportunity for an experienced process improvement leader to help SFU strengthen service experiences in ways that enable students, faculty and staff to focus on their most meaningful learning, research and work.

You are an experienced service optimization and process improvement leader who approaches complex work with curiosity, sound judgment and a strong commitment to collaboration. You bring excellent facilitation, analytical and systems-thinking skills, and are skilled at engaging with people to understand their experiences and translate findings into practical opportunities for improvement. You can navigate complexity, build shared understanding across diverse perspectives and develop clear, evidence-informed recommendations. You are motivated by improving how services work for people and supporting sustainable, measurable improvement in a complex university environment.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Business, Organizational Development, Public Administration, or a related discipline, Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification or equivalent, and eight years of progressively complex experience in leading enterprise transformation, operating model design, organizational redesign, or end-to-end process engineering within large, complex multi-stakeholder organizations or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • Strong facilitation, analytical and systems-thinking skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of process improvement methodologies, including Lean and Six Sigma or equivalent, with demonstrated ability to adapt approaches in complex, multi-stakeholder environments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to develop clear documentation and decision-support materials for diverse leadership audiences.
  • Ability to translate strategic direction into practical, implementation-ready design frameworks and documentation.
  • Ability to integrate change management practices into process redesign.

What We Offer

At SFU, our goal is to ensure our people are valued and supported by promoting a healthy work-life balance, professional growth and development, as well as a safe and respectful workplace. We offer temporary employees who belong in the Administrative Professional Excluded Staff group (APEX):

  • An additional 7% pay in lieu of benefits & 8% vacation pay
  • Employer paid extended health & dental plans
  • Hybrid-work program for eligible positions

Additional Information

The assignment end date is January 29, 2028.

The pay range is the span between the minimum and maximum base salary for the position. The midpoint of the range is approximately halfway between the minimum and the maximum and represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications and experience for the position. In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the pay range.
