Job description
Are you looking for the chance to work in a highly collaborative, diverse, and exceptionally "nice" environment with a strong emphasis on equity, diversity, and inclusion?
Do you want to join a regional department consisting of 7 lawyers, 2 paralegals, 3 assistants, and 1 receptionist to manage complex life and health insurance litigation?

Language & Location Requirement Notice: 100% of the daily functions are executed in English; French is not required for this Western/Common-law regional role. Candidates must currently reside in or around Vancouver, BC, as this position features a hybrid work mode requiring 1 day per week in the Vancouver office (located at 1050-401 Georgia St. W.). Physical attendance is required dynamically when assembling physical trial/court binders.

We are currently hiring a dedicated Paralegal (Litigation) for an urgent 6-month temporary medical/sick leave replacement. In this role, you will manage a consistent, high-volume case load of approximately 130 active files, encompassing life and health insurance matters such as long-term disability (LTD), critical illness, and group benefit claims.

🚨 CRITICAL PREREQUISITES TO APPLY:
To be considered for this role, you MUST hold a college diploma/degree in Paralegal Studies (licensing not required in BC) and have dedicated litigation experience. You must have a strong background in civil litigation and solid, practical familiarity with British Columbia civil litigation procedures, BC Small Claims fillable forms, and the BC Court Services Online (CSO) portal.

Because this legal role holds deep system access rights across sensitive corporate financial environments, you must be willing and able to pass a rigorous background and credit check, showing no history of bankruptcy or unmanageable debt profiles.

**Mandatory Pre-Screening Questionnaire**

To apply, you must submit your resume AND email your responses to the following questionnaire directly to jessica.yelozbek@randstad.ca.

Please note: You must meet all the criteria outlined below to be considered. If you do not meet these requirements, please do not submit an application. Only shortlisted talent who match the criteria will be contacted after a review of their resume and questionnaire.

* **MANDATORY:** Strong background in CIVIL LITIGATION. Previous exposure to INSURANCE LAW (specifically life and health insurance, group benefits, long-term disability, or debt recovery) is ideal.

* **MANDATORY:** Day-one operational readiness navigating digital court registries, specifically the BC Court Services Online (CSO) portal, and Microsoft Office Suite (Teams, OneDrive).

(RESUME needs to have accurate data for each employment start (month/year) - end (month/year) for EACH EMPLOYMENT.)

1- Exact Address: Please provide your full, detailed home address in the Vancouver, BC area.
2- Education Check: Can you confirm you possess a college diploma/degree in Paralegal Studies?
3- Experience Check: Can you confirm you have a strong background in civil litigation and experience managing a high volume of active files?
4- Technical Skills: Do you have hands-on experience with the BC Court Services Online (CSO) portal, fillable BC Small Claims forms, and document serving processes?
5- Background & Credit Checks: Are you comfortable undergoing and clearing a comprehensive background and credit check (mandatory due to high system access clearance)?
6- Schedule: Are you highly open to a shift starting early (e.g., 7:00 AM or 8:00 AM) to ensure a strong communication window with the primary team based out of Ontario?
7- Commitment: Are you comfortable committing to a 6-month temporary replacement role with an ASAP start date?
8- Previous Experience: What specific day-to-day tasks did you handle in your most recent litigation paralegal role, specifically regarding drafting Small Claims and Supreme Court pleadings?
9- Eligibility: Are you legally eligible to work full-time in Canada?
10- Setup & Office Attendance: Are you willing and able to step into the physical Vancouver office to manually build physical trial and small claims binders when court deadlines dictate?

Advantages

What's in it for YOU:

* **Hybrid Flexibility:** 1 day per week onsite in the downtown Vancouver office (Tuesday was initially slated). The candidate will have a dedicated desk inside a closed office.

* **Competitive Salary:** $78,582 – $100,000 per annual

* **Great Work-Life Balance:** Monday to Friday schedule. Standard hours are 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (or starting as early as 7:00 AM). Overtime is actively discouraged, and work-life balance is highly protected.

* **Equipment Provided:** Full corporate setup provided, including a laptop, external mouse, headset, and double monitors (both for home use and mirrored at the office desk).

* **Supportive Training:** Approximately 1 week of training including recorded technological training on internal systems, step-by-step process flowcharts, and direct coaching/oversight.

Responsibilities

Clear Day-to-Day Expectations:

* **File Management:** Manage approximately 130 active life and health insurance litigation files (claims values ranging between $1,000 and $25,000).

* **Drafting & Pre-Litigation:** Handle pre-litigation demands and proficiently draft Small Claims and Supreme Court pleadings.

* **Debt Recovery:** Independently negotiate payment/recovery plans for corporate overpayments.

* **Trial Preparation:** Prepare evidence books, trial briefs, compile evidence books, and assemble books of authority.

* **Communication:** Act as a confident communicator who isn't afraid to pick up the phone to ask remote colleagues for guidance.

Qualifications
What YOU bring to the role:

* **MANDATORY:** College diploma/degree in Paralegal Studies.

* **MANDATORY:** Strong background in CIVIL LITIGATION. Previous exposure to INSURANCE LAW (specifically life and health insurance, group benefits, long-term disability, or debt recovery) is ideal.

* **MANDATORY:** Day-one operational readiness navigating digital court registries, specifically the BC Court Services Online (CSO) portal, and Microsoft Office Suite (Teams, OneDrive).

* **Soft Skills:** You are diligent, highly organized, emotionally grounded, and methodical. You view file management as a "marathon, not a sprint," and are capable of managing a high volume without feeling overwhelmed. You are highly empathetic, respectful, and collaborative.

(RESUME needs to have accurate data for each employment start (month/year) - end (month/year) for EACH EMPLOYMENT.)

Summary
If you meet the mandatory requirements and believe this Paralegal (Litigation) opportunity is the perfect fit for you, please ensure your resume clearly reflects your exact civil litigation experience and familiarity with BC court procedures.

Send your resume and completed questionnaire directly to jessica.yelozbek@randstad.ca.

Please note that for this specific role, candidates must currently reside in or around Vancouver, BC.

Only candidates who meet all criteria and complete the questionnaire will be contacted for next steps.
