We are seeking a Mechanical Draftsperson to support the design, development, and execution of industrial mechanical projects. This role will work closely with engineers, operations personnel, and contractors to produce detailed technical drawings and support projects from concept through commissioning.
Our client is a large-scale underground mining joint venture in the Sudbury Basin focused on the development of critical mineral resources. About the Role:
In this role, you will support major capital, sustaining, and operational projects by developing detailed mechanical drawings and technical documentation for industrial facilities. Working closely with engineering and site teams, you will help transform project concepts into practical designs that support safe and reliable operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare preliminary, general arrangement, and detailed mechanical drawings from engineering concepts and specifications.
- Develop layouts and detailed drawings for piping systems, pumping systems, material handling equipment, structural components, process equipment, and plant infrastructure.
- Assist with field measurements, site inspections, and design verification activities.
- Create equipment specifications, bills of materials (BOMs), and material take-offs.
- Support project estimating, procurement, and vendor coordination.
- Review consultant and contractor drawings for accuracy and compliance with project requirements.
- Participate in field inspections, equipment installations, and commissioning activities.
- Update existing drawings and prepare accurate as-built documentation.
- Maintain drawing standards, records, and drafting documentation.
- Provide guidance and technical support to junior drafting personnel as required.
Qualifications
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 5 years of drafting experience in industrial, mining, manufacturing, or heavy industrial environments.
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, piping layouts, equipment installations, and construction practices.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience preparing mechanical design drawings and technical documentation.
- Familiarity with industrial process plants, material handling systems, and mechanical equipment is considered an asset.
- Valid Ontario Driver's License.
